B2 Midnight Setting Campaign

B2 Midnight Setting Campaign
This is the start of a long B2 Campaign which I have
set in the Game World of FFG old RPG Midnight.

The Campaign involves the forces of fallen God
Izrador (The Shadow) AKA Uthuk Y'llan attempted
conquest of 7 Strategic Cities of the Sarosan Human
Kingdom of S. Erenland AKA Daqan Lords. It's
sort of a Midnight prequel.

Why the change of venue-well we like a lot
of back story for our campaigns & as the
Midnight setting is based on a RPG it has tons
of background over Terrinoth .So FLUFF Warning
as this is the start of this Campaign a lot of
background material is covered to set the stage.
So you are warned De Dwarf is wordy.

I do session reports that are heavy on the story
elements & not so much a rendering of each dice
roll or card used. So basically each sides turn is 15
minutes of Game battle time & every 4 turns I give
the hour. The following Game lasted 8 Turns so
2 hours of Game time. I give the Command Card played
but don't mention the collection of Lore & Lore Cards
are only noted when they are used .

So to Have at it Here's the Set Up:

Army List

Forces of the Shadow= Brutal Assault
Kingdom of S. Erenland = Guardians of Lore

Scenario

Forces of the Shadow=Staking a Claim(first Player)
Kingdom of S. Erenland=The Last Bridge

3rd Helial, Shareel

Jahzir smiled looking down from the tower of Highwall
Castle as he watched the fleet departing for the
conquest of the South lands. His war chief Jaekys
Flesh Marker under orders to capture the city of
Erenhead the first step to bring all of the Kingdom
of S.Erenland under the Shadow of his Master Izrador.

Time was some what meaningless to the immortal Night King,
but his God Izrador had made clear ,now that the North
had fallen & the last of the Dornish old Kings flayed, that
the Sarcosans Kingdom of the Southeast & the Elven Kingdom
of the Southwest must brought under his control.

It had been 6 months since the last Dornish City of
Highwall had surrendered & 3 weeks since another
fleet had been dispatched across the sea of Pelluria
to begin the Western Campaign against the Elves
in their forest stronghold of Erethor.

That Campaign would be the most difficult & he had
sent his elite Orc forces accompanied by his rival
Night Kings, Ardherin & Zardrix for support.

The just departing fleet for the Eastern Campaign
however, was a true moment of sweetness, his
revenge against his former people & the Sarcosan
King that had betrayed him. Now as Supreme
Commander of the Shadow's Armies the South
Erenland Kingdom would be ground under the
Shadows iron boot heel.

Jahair, watching the fleet grow small in the distance,
did find irony in the fact that most of the army he
was sending out was made up of Dornish men.The
Dorns had fought savagely against the Shadow
but once their Kings were thrown down &
they submitted old resentments against their
former allies the Sarcosans of the South resurfaced.
Thus many Dorns were willing to join Izrador
forces.

This was fortunate as although Izrador forces were vast
so were the task the fallen God had set out. The North
had to be held as not all Dorns were willing to accept
the Shadow rule. Sunulael ,his other rival Night King
& head of The Shadow Cult was busy organizing
& enforcing the occupation between him & the
Western Campaign most all of Izrador Chosen,
the orcs were committed leaving most of the Eastern
Campaign to depend on human troops.

Satisfied that all his plans were now in motion Jahzir
left the tower balcony to report to his God.

The time is 905 Third Age & the Shadow moves South.



4h Helial, Dorshran.905TA

Voratch Darksworn, stepped out of the cabin into the
chill mists of morning, the weight of responsibility
was crushing. The Legate healers had just informed
him that the entire Armies command structure, save
himself was dead or incapacitated.

He didn't know at this moment who he hated more,
the arrogant Sarcosans who had ruled over his
people for generations & then offered little help
as the forces of Izrador overran the north or
the arrogant Orcs his new allies in the service to
the Shadow.

The Eastern Army besides it's War Chief had a War
Council of 12,11 Orcs & him the lone Dorn, a sop to
the majority of troops that made up the Army.
Not that they paid any attention to his advice.

Basically he had suffered one indignity after another
since the fleet had landed along the coast & the
Army had marched inland through the Plains of
Erenhead. The deserted village was another lesson
in Orc arrogance ,a brewery had been found & the Orcs
lost no time in commandeering it's Kegs.

Dammit he had warned them the Sarcosans were
not honorable warriors & poison was a real
possibility. For his trouble his manhood had been
questioned & the next War Council meeting had
turned into an epic binge while the Orcs laughed
at his refusal to drink.

Now 8 were dead & War Chief Jaekys & 3 others
were bed ridden & barely conscience. The Legate
Healers had said they would recover but it would
be months at best before they could resume
command. Thus he was now the ranking officer of
the Army deep in enemy territory.By the Shadow
he had never commanded anything this big,the
command of a Palace Guard was the extent of
his command experience.

He knew, the Night King Jahzir would not tolerate
delay,if he waited for a new War Chief the day of his
arrival would be the day of his own death. Voratch
had no choice but to carry on with Jaekys Battle
Plan but the responsibility now forced upon him
was overwhelming .If he failed to take Erenhead
death would not be merciful.

4th Helial, Dorshran,905TA

Zerith Tabelu, Commander of Erenhead, had just completed
the Cities muster & prepared to meet the gathering storm
of the Shadow Army.

The scouts had informed him that the enemy Army had
landed several miles down the coast,undoubtedly
to avoid Erenhead's formidable sea fortifications.
This would only mean that they planned to come
at the City from land side & thus had to get over
the Eren River.

The obvious bottle neck would be 'The Great" Bridge,
if the forces of the Shadow were to be stopped that
Bridge had be defended. Otherwise, the forces of
the Shadow would Stake a claim to Eren hinterlands
& the City would be cut off from help.

Tabelu,reflected that even though he had been
Commander of the Cities forces for some 10 years,
he had never had to muster it's full manpower.
His Command experience was limited to the
parade ground & now he was caught up in a
real war.

Still he would do his duty, he was the best the City
had, may the Lost Gods grant he was good enough.


2nd Helial , Sahaad ,905TA

1st Battle of Erenland

Voratch Darksworn after being thrust into command had
moved his Army quickly following War Chiefs Jaekys plan
to attack Erenhead from it's weaker southern side.
However as he approached the bridge over the Eren River
he found the cities forces were moving up to block
his advance.

Voratch main goal was to secure the strategic points
necessary to open the way for the investiture of
Erenhead,now he would need to fight to take
them. He quickly deployed his forces.

The left Flank was covered by a unit of Blood Harvesters,
& Flesh Rippers plus the half dragon to insure the
vital strategic location would be denied the Erenlanders.

His Center has anchored by 2 Blood Harvester Units
and another of Flesh Rippers.Their assignment was to
take the river bridge & isolate the City from its
main source of supply.

The Right Flank with its strategic Hill was left to the 2 Fell
Units to take.

Commander Tabelu to his dismay found the Shadow
Army approaching the Great Bridge & other strategic
locations but it still was not too late.

Putting 1 Yeomen Archer Unit & 2 Citadel Guard Units
plus his Roc Rider in the Center with the key
mission to take & hold the bridge.

To his left to take the strategic hill he assigned a
unit of Yeomen Archers with a Citadel Guard Unit
& 1 of his Rune Golems Units.

The Right Flank was to try to push the Shadow forces
back & secure the strategic location. This difficult
task had been assigned to 2 Citadel Guard Units
& 2 Yeomen Archer Units along with the other Rune
Golem Unit.

Barely had he got his forces in place when the battle
horns of the Shadow army sounded the attack.

The Battle for Erenhead had begun!

Clash of Arms-The First hour

Voratch wasted no time ordering an Attack Right,
sending his 2 Fell Units lumbering toward the Hill
that dominated his Right Flank .He despised
the Obscene Fell, mounds of dead flesh given horrible
life by Sunulael's vile experiments but they were
useful in battle. A Unit of Flesh Rippers was also
dispatched to attack the Yeomen bowman Unit
guarding the hinge to Erenheads Center.

The Flesh Rippers perverted beasts through the
Dragon Magic of Zardrix charged into the Yeomen,
who held firm but lost 2/3 of their number.

(Upkeep: VP=0)

Commander Tabelu seeing the enemies concentration
on his left Flank ordered a Line Advance. The Rune
Golems on his left were sent to occupy the strategic
Hill before the shambling Units of enemy could get to it.
A Unit of the Citadel Guards was sent to occupy the
crucial bridge & on his right another Unit of Rune Golems
was set against a Unit of enemy infantry. Tabelu,
silently thanked the Lost Gods that these ancient artifact
still functioned as they would be his hammer Units.

The Golem attack on the Fell forced the undead back
but their counter attack took down one of the Golems.
The Golem attack against the Blood Harvester infantry
stunned that Unit.

(Upkeep: VP2- 1-Bridge & 1-Strategic Hill

Voratch, seeing set backs to his Right & Center
ordered a Patrol Left sending the massive
but slow half Dragon toward the Strategic by
the lake to secure his own supply line & ordered
the Flesh Ripper Unit to take on the Golems .

The Flesh Rippers was shrugged off by the Golems.

(Upkeep: VP 0)

Commander Tabelu seeing his forces had blunted
the initial attack by the Shadow Forces ordered
another Line Advance. The Citadel Guard Units
were put in motion, on the Left ordered to attack the
Flesh Ripper Unit that had previously decimated
the Yeoman Archers ,in the Center they moved
to take on a Blood Harvester Unit & on the Right
they moved to hit the stunned blood Harvester Unit.

The Guards on the Left eliminated 1 Flesh Ripper, in
the Center they gave the Blood Harvester Unit a loss
& on the Right another Blood Harvester Unit was
give a loss as the stunned unit was unable to retreat.

(Upkeep: 2 VP - 1-Bridge & 1-Strategic Hill -Total 4VP)

The Shadow Commander steeled himself the battle
was not going well & he realized that throwing troops
against the enemy was not working. He needed to tie
down some vital Locations to keep the Campaign going.

He ordered Attack Center & sent a Flesh Ripper Unit
to move into the buildings of the small village by
the bridge to threaten the enemies infantry there.
The depleted Blood Harvester Unit was ordered back
to secure a Forest crossing & another Blood Harvested
Unit was ordered over to the Left Flank to hold a
Hill over looking his supply line.

The Flesh Rippers fierce forced the Citadel Guard unit
back (2 spaces) & the Rippers pursued catching the
Guard again & force a loss & making the Guard retreat
back again.

(Upkeep: 1 VP for Scenario Terrain Special-occupy 1each
of Forest, Hill, Clear) Total 1)

Commander Tabelu silently cursed as he saw his Guards
forced off the bridge, the bridge that was the whole point
of him fighting here. It had to be held, at least long
enough to get arriving supplies through.

He ordered a Patrol Center sending his Roc Rider
Unit forward to take on the Flesh Rippers & sending
in his reserve Citadel Guard Unit to further punish the
Flesh Rippers.

The Roc attack destroyed one Flesh Ripper & forced
the rest back but their retreat left the Citadel Guard
without a target.

(Upkeep: 1VP- Strategic Hill (the bridge was lost)
Total 5VP).

Voratch having opened the bridge moved to shore up
his Left Flank & its it's vital Location ordering an Attack
Left sending the great Half Dragon to secure the vital
Landing by the Lake. To push back the Ehenheaders
Troops from getting closer he ordered the Flesh Rippers
to take on the Golems .His Chandlers were finally
able to muster the power to free the weak
Blood Harvester Unit from it's stunned condition(2 lore)
& it sought revenge from the Citadel Guard Unit
facing it.

The Flesh Rippers took down one of the Golems but
the Unit stood its Ground. The weakened Blood Harvester
in its Rage gave the Citadel Guard Unit a loss & forced
it to retreat & the Shadow Chandlers feeding off the
Blood Harvester rage sent Pillage into their opponents
stripping of power from them & adding it to their own.

of Forest, Hill, Clear & 1 for Strategic hex - Total 3)


Tabelu seeing his Right Flank being pushed back
regretted he could not order a Cavalry Charge but
the Duke had held back his elite Sussars horsemen
as a strategic reserve, so he ordered his Citadel
Guard Unit in his center to reoccupy the vital bridge.

(Upkeep-2 VP - 1-Bridge & 1-Strategic Hill -Total 7VP


Decision in the Balance-The 2nd Hour

Voratch Swore as he saw the damn enemy Infantry
reoccupy the bridge, he wished he could Darken the Sky
with arrows but the Dorn Archers had not yet joined
the main army, instead he sent one of the Fell Units
on his Right flank to push the Golems off their Strategic
Hill.

The undead Fell hammered into the Golems taking
another down but even weakened the Golem counter
attacked taking down a Fell & forcing the rest of them
back.

(Upkeep 2 VP-1 VP for Scenario Terrain Special-occupy
1each of Forest, Hill, Clear & 1 for Strategic hex - Total 5)


The Erenhead Commander judged now was the time to
Darken the Sky & pulled his Right Flank Yeomen Archers
out of reserve moving a Unit up to get within range of the
enemy Flesh Rippers, the other Archer Unit was moved
up to support the Golems.The weakened Archers in
his center was ordered to attack the Flesh Rippers
in their range.

Alas he observed the missile attack failed to damage
the Flesh Rippers on his Right. The Center volley had
more success taking out a Flesh Ripper & forcing the
Unit to retreat.

(Upkeep-2 VP - 1-Bridge & 1-Strategic Hill -Total 9VP)

Commander Voratch again pushed against the Strategic
Hill with it's weakened Golem defender ordering a
Patrol Right. Both A Fell Unit & Flesh Ripper Unit moves
up to attack the Golem.The Erenhead Chandlers
intervene casting Stalwart Defender over the Golem.

The Fell Attack is shrugged off the Golem stands firm,
The Shadow Chandlers now cast Fury of Y'llan on
the Flesh Ripper, the resulting attack takes down
the remaining Golem & the Flesh Rippers occupy
the Strategic Hill.

(Upkeep-3 VP-1 VP for Scenario Terrain Special-occupy
1each of Forest, Hill, Clear & 2 for Strategic hexes
- Total 8)


Tabelu realizing the danger to his Flanks Left orders
Surround. On his Left he Sends the Citadel Guard Unit
off it's Center/Left hinge position to retake the Strategic
Hill & a Yeoman Archer Unit is moved up to get the
same Flesh Ripper Units range. To shore up his Right
Flank The Golem is ordered to renew the attack on
the adjacent Flesh Ripper & a Citadel Guard Unit moves
out finish off the weakened Blood Harvester Unit.

The Citadel Guard on the Left Flank storm the Hill
pushing the Flesh Rippers into retreat & advancing
to reoccupy the Strategic Hill. The Archers stand down
no longer having their target in range. On the Right
Flank The Golems take out 1 flesh Ripper but the
Ripper counter attack is brutal taking out both
remaining Golems. The Citadel Guard Unit fares better
killing off the weaken Blood Harvester Unit & then
conducting a pursuit & attacking the previously
victorious Flesh Ripper Unit & destroying them.

(Upkeep-2 VP - 1-Bridge & 1-Strategic Hill -Total 11VP)


Voratch once again s sees his fortune reversed,he
briefly considers a Patrol Left but this would mean
abandoning strategic Locations so instead he
once again orders a Fell on his Right to try to
retake the strategic Hill from the enemy Infantry.

To help his dark chandlers cast Unrelenting Battle
but the Erenhead chandlers dismiss it with Runic
Barrier.The Fell Unit however is still victorious,
giving the Citadel Guard Unit a loss & into retreat,
The Fell shamble on to the Hill to reclaim the
Strategic Location.

(Upkeep-3 VP-1 VP for Scenario Terrain Special-occupy
1each of Forest, Hill, Clear & 2 for Strategic hexes
- Total 11)

Commander Tabelu ignoring the loss on his Left
moves to make up up for it in the Center & Right.
Echelon Right is ordered sending the great Roc
forward to force an enemy Infantry out of it's
strategic Forest location. On his Left he ordered
the 2 Yeomen Archer Units forward to try to force
another enemy Infantry Unit off a Hill strategic
Location.

The Roc however is infective & the enemy Units
counter manages to wound the Roc which
moves off. The Yeomen Archers volleys do force
the Blood Harvesters off the Hill.

( Upkeep-1 VP Bridge-Total-12

The Shadow Commander begins to sense that the
battle is shifting in his favor. He still to opened the
bridge to deny it to the Erenhead Army. Ordering
Attack Center he moves a Flesh Ripper Unit
up to the bridge to clear it.

The Flesh Ripper attack take out a Citadel Guard
but they still keep control of the bridge.

(Upkeep--3 VP-1 VP for Scenario Terrain Special-occupy
1each of Forest, Hill, Clear & 2 for Strategic hexes
- Total 14)

Commander Tabelu sees his Flanks crumbling &
the vital bridge under increasing pressure. He
begins plan his withdraw but that bridge must hold
out just a bit longer. Ordering Attack Center the
Citadel Guard is ordered to push the Flesh Rippers
back from the bridge & the Roc Rider to again
try to force the Blood Harvesters out of the Strategic
Forest Location.

The Guard responds by taking out a Ripper &
withstanding its counter attack. The Roc Rider
this time do force the enemy infantry to retreat
out of the Forest.

(Upkeep-1 Bridge-Total 13

Voratch can almost taste victory but it will be a close
thing. Ordering Wedge he sends the Flesh Ripper Unit
on his right back to secure his hold on the Forest
lost when the Blood Harvesters retreated. In his Center
the weak Flesh Ripper is ordered to attack the
bridge with it's citadel Guard defenders. A
weakened Blood Harvester is also ordered up
to attack the bridge. On the Left Flank a Blood
Harvester Unit reoccupies the Hill to help secure
the high ground.

The Flesh Ripper manages to take out another
Guardsman & then The Blood Harvester
finishes off the Unit & the bridge is opened.

(Upkeep --3 VP-1 VP for Scenario Terrain Special-occupy
1each of Forest, Hill, Clear & 2 for Strategic hexes
- Total 17)

Commander Tabelu with the bridge gone begins
to pull out but to prevent a rout he hits back hard
by ordering Attack Left & a Citadel Guard Unit
& yeoman bow unit are moved to take on the
Fell on the Strategic Hill.

The Citadel Guard Unit forces the Fell back
but the Fell counter forces the Citadel Guard Unit
back. The Yeomen no longer have a target &
stand down.

(Upkeep-)VP-Total13

Voratch savors his victory he has Staked his Claim
to the Erenhead hither lands the cost has been high
but troops lives are nothing only victory is rewarded.
Night King Jahzir will be pleased.

Commander Tableu husbands his Army back towards
Erenhead. He grieves at the cost of so many lost
but he had defended the bridge long enough for some
needed supplies & refugees to get through, hopefully
they would help but the bridge was now in the service
of the Shadow.

Close Game the body count was equal & for a first
Game we didn't screw up the rules except once
we had to redo a turn as we forgot the Forest Terrain
combat restrictions & a few times we got so involved
that we forgot counter.

I'm closing the Thread as I'll be adding to the Campaign
Battle Reports. If anyone should have some questions

Scenario

Forces of the Shadow=The Cursed Glade
Kingdom of S. Erenland=Mustering the Militia (1st Player)

NOTE The Shadow General has accumulated 17VP & is
promoted to Level 2. The Erenhead Commander only
has 13 VP & stays at Level 1.

The Shadow Forces get a command Tent & thus can
field an extra Blood Harvester Unit + 1 Lore.

2nd Battle for Erenhead

1st Helial,Senneach ,905TA

In the feeble illumination of q false dawn Commander
Tabelu moved the Erenhead Army up the Market Road
through the abundant Orchard Groves & small farming
villages that made up the region South of Erenhead.
A week ago the village of Riverford had sent word that
the Shadows Army was approaching.

The Duke, much to Tabelu relief had released his elite
horse guard the Sussars to the Army,as the region
was vital to the city for both manpower & victuals
now that the river life line had been cut.

Tabelu planned a quick surprise Assault using the
mounted forces to break through the enemy lines
& secure the villages & the Strategic ford at Riverford
& deny the enemy Army use of the Market Road. He also
intended to occupy the orchards to deny them to the
enemy & send the ripening fruits back to Erenhead.

His Army now silently took up battle positions, the
Sussars dismounted & walking their horses to
preserve the element of surprise.The local
population had given Tabelu detailed information
about the Shadows Army Camp & he had made his
own battle plans accordingly .

On his Right Flank he had positioned 2 Citadel
Guard Units,a Yeoman Archer Unit,a Unit of
Sussars & on the Right Flank/Center hinge another
Citadel Guard Unit.Their Mission was to secure a
village in the area & to push back the enemy from
the orchard areas.

Tabelu Center consisted of 3 Yeoman Archer Units
& a Sussars Unit. Their assigned task, secure a
village & drive the enemy Units from the village
they occupied.The Shadow Army Command Tent
would also be a target.


The left wing he had a Unit of Yeoman Archers & the
final Sussars Unit. Its job was to block the Market
Road & to drive up & occupy Riverford before the
advancing Shadow forces.

Darksworn waited impatiently as his troop captains
filed into the Command Tent,one side of which had
been rolled up to allow Borjik the half dragon to
participate. Voratch still felt some astonishment
that this massive bestial being was in fact intelligent
& gave good consul.

Brushing that idle thought aside,as his captains took
their places around the map table,he began to
explain the days maneuvers. The main objectives
would be to secure the lush orchards,which would
provide a much needed fresh fruit component to his
armies diet of salted dried jerky.
A secondary objective would be to seize the several
villages in the region to send their populations back
North as slaves to curry favor with the Night Kings.
He also intended to secure the village by the ford
on his Right Flank to use as a base & to secure the
junction on the main road leading toward Erenhead.

His Army was well positioned for this mission, the Right
Flank had 2 Viper Legion Archers, a Fell Unit & a Unit
of Flesh Rippers. The Center had a Fell Units, a Blood
Harvester Unit, a Viper Legion Archer Unit & the Great
half Dragon. The Left Flank contained a Viper Legion
Archer & a Flesh Ripper Unit.

Voratch had no sooner started that suddenly all Hell
broke loose. Shouts , curses & the thunder of hoof beats,
the enemy was upon him. Leaving the half dragon to
hold the command tent, he sent his captains back to
their Units as he sent his personal guards to report on
the fighting.

Swords at Sunrise- The First Hour

In the first light of true dawn Tabelu with his battle line
complete ordered ATTACK CENTER but changed his
cavalries target from the Command Tent which he
saw the great half dragon guarding to the to Fell
Unit occupying the village & sent a Unit of Yeoman
Archers into the Orchard next to the Command Tent
to harass the massive beast. A Unit of the palace
Guard also moved up to secure another Village.

The Cavalry hit the Fell Unit hard taking out one of
the obscene creatures but could not gain the
Village. The Archers manage to wound the half
dragon but the monstrous creature in a smashing
counter attack took out 2/3 of the Archers.

Upkeep-0VP-Total VP-0,Campaign Total-13)

Voratch still unsure of the of the magnitude of
the attack he was facing made a DESPERATE PLOY
ordering the half dragon to push back the Cavalry
in the Center Unit & signaling for the Flesh Rippers
on his Right Flank to move into the strategic
road junction.

The half dragons attack failed to catch the Cavalry
Unit but the horse men's counter attack also failed
to do any damage.
(Upkeep- 1VP (Strategic location)-Total VP-1 Campaign
Total 18)

Tabelu quickly responded to the threat to the road junction
by ordering PATROL LEFT & sending a Cavalry Unit to
force the Rippers back & having a Yeoman Archer
Unit in range volley on the Rippers.

The Cavalry wounded the Flesh Rippers but failed to
move, the Archers aided by the Chandlers casting DEATH
FROM ABOVE did force the Rippers back from the vital road
junction.

It was now the Shadow commander turn to act
quickly ordering ATTACK RIGHT & sending the
wounded Flesh Ripper to occupy the Orchard
adjacent to the Erenhead Cavalry Unit. He then
moved a Fell Unit to reoccupy the strategic road junction
& had his Viper Legion fire on the enemy archers.

The Viper bowmen volley forced the yeomen Unit
to retreat. The Fell smashed the Cavalry Unit destroying
2/3 & pushing it back, this the Rippers without a target,
however they did occupy the territory Voratch wanted.

The Erenhead forces keep up the pressure on its
Left Flank With ATTACK LEFT.The Yeoman Archers
target the Fell Unit & The Cavalry using OVERRUN
ride through the Fell before swinging around to attack.

The Archers however are unable to damage The Fell
but the Cavalry manages to wound them.

Voratch orders BATTLE MARCH & the half dragon
takes on the Cavalry Unit in the Center & on the
Right a Viper Legion Unit moves to occupy Riverford
Village nailing down that strategic objective. To the
Left a Unit of Flesh Rippers occupy a Village
just before a Citadel Guard Unit can reach it.

The half dragon smashes the Cavalry destroying
2/3 of the Unit & sending it back in retreat. To
the Left the Viper Legion volley poisons the
Cavalry.

Commander Tabelu still trying to push the enemy
off the road junction & open the way to relieve
Riverford orders ATTACK LEFT. Having his chandlers
remove the poison taint from his Cavalry Unit
orders it to Riverford. The Yeomen target the Fell
at the road junction.

The Cavalry attack on the Viper Legion Unit at
Riverford is brushed off & in a counter attack
the Cavalry is again tainted with poison.The
yeoman Volleys are more telling the Fell Unit
is forced back & unable to retreat further is
destroyed.

Voratch determined to secure his Right Flank
& secure his objectives orders ONSLAUGHT .
To the Left a Viper Legion moves to secure an
Orchard,in the Center a Blood Harvester Unit
moves into force the weak Yeoman Archer Unit
out of the Orchard it's defending. On the Right
A Viper Legion is moved up to re secure the
road junction that the Fell had been driven from.

The Viper Legion on the Right volley the weak &
poisoned Cavalry unit but is unable to do any damage.
The Blood Harvesters crush the weak Archer Unit
then with OVERWHELMING POWER take the orchard.
The Viper Legion volleys the Citadel Guard unit holding
a Village but fail to hurt the well covered Guards.

Darkening Dawn-The 2nd Hour

Commander Tabelu seeing that his attacks so far have
not yielded much progress orders a CAVALRY CHARGE.
The horsemen on his Right attack a wounded Flesh
Ripper unit occupying a village .In the Center his
weakened Cavalry Unit swings about & moves to
the Left Flank to confront the Viper Legion on the
vital road junction. The weakened Cavalry Unit
already on the Left flank moves to box in the same
Viper Legion.

The Cavalry attack on the Flesh Ripper wounds the
Ripper but fails to force it out of the village. The
dual Cavalry assaults on the Viper Unit wounds the
Unit but it still holds the road junction.

The Shadow Commander seeing the the moves upon
his Right Flank orders ECHELON RIGHT having the
Flesh Ripper Unit attack one of the weak Cavalry
Units & Viper Legion to attack the other weak Cavalry.
In his Center he sends a Fell Unit to attack the
Citadel Guard Unit that is holding a village.

The Ripper Unit destroys the weak Cavalry Unit
but the Viper Legion attack on the other weak
Cavalry unit fails but the Cavalry Counter Attack
also fails. The Fell Unit has more success forcing
the Citadel Guard Unit to retreat back to the Ford.

Campaign Total-28)

Tabelu has a moment of frustration his troops
although damaging the Shadow's Units have not
been able to secure any of it's needed objectives
& the loss of a Village to the Fell has wipe out the
one bit of progress made.He steadies himself &
orders CLASH OF STEEL.

The Citadel Guard on the Right hits the wounded
Flesh Ripper forcing it out of the Village into the
Erenhead Cavalry & it destruction as the Guard
advances into the Village. The Citadel Guard
previously forced to retreat in the center strikes
the Fell occupying the Village ,the attack wounds
the Fell Unit but it remains in the Village.The
weak Cavalry on the Left tries again to take the
road junction from the wounded Viper Legion
Unit holding it but although the Cavalry gets
another wound on the Vipers they still manage
to hold the road.

Voratch now tries to finish off the enemy who
still pose a challenge to his Left by ordering
ECHELON LEFT . The Viper Legion volley
on the intact Cavalry Unit & in the Center the
weak Fell Unit attacks the Citadel Guard.

The Cavalry Unit is forced to retreat from the
Viper Unit volley & the Fell attack again forces
the Citadel Guard out of the Village & reoccupy.

Campaign Total-30)

Tableu again tries to clear the road junction on
his Left, his main line of retreat ordering LINE
ADVANCE. The weak Cavalry Unit rallies to again
try to take the road junction from the stubborn
Viper Legion Unit & he sends a Yeoman Archer
Unit from his center to aid his Cavalry on the Left.
The Citadel Guard Unit again comes from the
center/Right hinge to contest a Village the Fell
Unit has occupied. The Erenhead Chandlers
in a mighty effort enhance this ASSAULT &
exhaust their entire store of power.

The weak Cavalry finally succeeds destroys the
weak Viper Legion Unit & advances to the vital
road junction. The Citadel Guard destroy the
Fell Unit & retake the Village.

(Upkeep -2VP (1 Strategic Terrain & 1 for Terrain
occupying 2 Villages)Total 2-Campaign Total 15VP)

Voratch orders ECHELON RIGHT to again slam the
door shut on the vital road junction. The Flesh
Ripper Unit is ordered to move out of the orchard
it's holding & take on the weakened Cavalry.The
Dark Chandlers rally to cast UNRELENTING to aid
the Ripper Unit. In addition the Viper Legion holding
Riverford gives a supporting volley. A Viper Legion
from the Center reserve is ordered into a adjacent
orchard to make up fro the Flesh Ripper moving out
of it's orchard .

The Ripper attack is swift The weak Cavalry is routed
& destroyed as its forced up against the river. The
Rippers advance to the road junction.

Campaign Total-31)

Tabelu with the road junction gone orders retreat
before before his Army is trapped. The Shadow has
prevailed again in spite of the Erenhead army inflicting
greater losses, but with the needed objectives of
his battle plan out of reach further fighting is pointless.
He has at least provided refuge to half of the
Villages in the region & delayed the Shadows push
to Erenhead.

Voratch Darkspawn breaths relief as he sees the
Erenhead Army break contact. His losses have been
huge but he now controls the Strategic points he
needs to advance & the fresh fruits will help boost
army moral in spite of the causalities.

He contemplates a glowing report to Jazir ,leaving
out the fact that he was surprised & along with
the slaves being sent North he began to feel secure
in his usurped command.

Well that was brutal & we did a home rule to help
the Erenhead side. When we looked at the Scenarios
they seem to set up a surprise attack on the Shadow
Side. So we ruled on the first 2 turns the Shadow player
could only draw & play 1 card from the top of the
Command Deck, they turned to be good cards &
blunted the early Erenhead moves /attacks.

The Erenhead side again this this Game killed off
more of it's opponents units but still lost. The
Cards were good but the dice were not. Great
opportunities lost or only half realized. So they
could never get the VP hexes they needed &
thus VP wise the Game was a blow out for the
Shadow.

We still have 2 more Games to play in the Campaign
so Erenhead has a chance to recover but the
Shadow having double the VP at this stage it
won't be easy.

3rd Battle for Erenhead

Forces of the Shadow= Harvest of Flesh
Kingdom of S. Erenland = Blacken Skies

Scenario

Forces of the Shadow=Blood in the Water (1st Player)
Kingdom of S. Erenland= The Blood Muir Forest

Note The 4 VP point are clear hexes so they are
referred to as road hexes for Session narrative.

Note 2 The Shadow General has accumulated 31VP & is
promoted to Level 3. The Erenhead Commander only
has 15 VP & promoted to at Level 2.

The couriers grabbed the orders to attack & quickly
left glad to be out of the presence of their commanders
vile temper. Voratch was in a foul mood & the heat of
high summer in the South lands didn't help.

The real reason for his displeasure was however more
serious. He had used the road junction he had
secured in the last battle to split his army & send
them down the two roads leading to Erenhead City.

This had allowed the irregular forces of the enemy
to harass his columns & the marches had turned
into constant running skirmishes to maintain his
supply lines. Now another Erenhead Army was
blocking his advance; plus the Legate Healers had
sent word that the Orc Army General Jaekys Flesh
Marker & the surviving Orc war council members were
recovering.Thus he had no time to waste ,he needed to
take the damn city before they were well enough to
replace him.

The combination of irregulars to his rear & an enemy
Army in his front presented Voratch with several strategic
problems. He had to secure the roads behind him for
his supply & force the Erenhead Army away from
the roads leading to the city so he could advance.
This was all made harder by the Hill Country in his
center ,which he needed to control to stop the enemy
from splitting his Army in two.

His battle plan positioned his Army to accomplish
these multiple tasks.On his Right he had 3 Viper
Legions, & single Units of Flesh Rippers & Blood
Harvesters. In the Center he had positioned 2
more Viper Legions & 2 Blood Harvesters Units.
To his Left a Flesh Ripper Unit & 1 more Blood
Harvester. Voratch regretted the great half dragon
was missing but he had been left to secure the
vital junction of roads his army was now using.


Commander Tabelu had toured the camp fires of
his Army the previous night,finding them in good
spirits in spite of previous set backs. However,
Tabelu was running out of space.

He had been trading land for enemy casualties
but it seemed that the Shadow had plenty of
troops & could care less about losing them.

Tabelu needed to check the enemy now or be
forced back to the gates of Erenhead before the
Duke could fully prepare the city for siege.

His battle plan was simple, block the roads on
his Left & Right Flanks, from the enemy & seize
the hill country in the Center to divide the Shadow's
forces. To this end he had placed on his Right 2
Yeoman Archers & a Citadel Guard Unit, The Center
held a Yeoman Archer & a Cavalry Unit & on
his Left 2 Cavalry Units & another Yeoman Archer Unit.
Tabelu wished he had more of the Citadel Guard
Units but they were back in Erenhead City training
the raw recruits that had fled from the Villages
the Shadow forces had overrun.



Fight for the Roads-The first hour

Voratch moved to secure the needed roads ordering
WEDGE he sent a Viper Legion on his Left to secure
the road he intended to advance on. Two Harvesters
Units were sent forward in the Center to occupy hill
& forest terrain.To the Left he sent a Flesh Ripper unit
back to secure his supply on that road.

The Viper Unit upon taking the road fired on an
Erenhead Cavalry unit but no damage was done.

The Erenhead Commander's reaction was swift ordering
ECHELON LEFT & sending the Cavalry & Roc Unit on
his left to take out the Viper Unit on the road & in
the Center a Cavalry Unit up to attack the Harvester
Unit on the hill.

The combined Roc & Cavalry attack destroys the
Vipers & the Roc Unit secures the road.The Cavalry
attack in the Center wounds the Harvester unit.

(Upkeep-1 VP (road)-Total 1VP-Campaign Total 16 )

The Shadow now attempts to SURROUND,sending
a Harvester Unit on the Right to occupy the supply road
& the Flesh Rippers to attack the Yeomen Archers.
To the Left a Harvester moves to seize the road
forward.

The Rippers fierce attack wounds the Archer Unit &
it retreats. The Rippers now pursue coming up
against a Cavalry Unit wounding it & causing a
rout which loses another Cavalry.The Weaken Cavalry
Unit Counter attack is brushed off.

(Upkeep-3VP (road VP hexes)-Total 5VP-
Campaign Total 36 )

Tabelu determined to regain the vital road & block
the enemies Center orders BATTLE MARCH.
The Palace Guard Unit is moved from the Right
Flank up to a village in Center, another Archer is
also pulled from the Left to the Left/Center hinge.
On the Left the Cavalry Unit is unleashed to move
up the Harvester Unit holding the supply road.

The Archer Unit targets the Harvester trying to drive
it off the road & wounds the Unit. The Cavalry
Attack on the Left wounds the Harvester Unit
which tries to retreat & loses another member
to the River & instead grimly holds onto the road.

(Upkeep-2VP(1 road VP &1 VP more Units in Center)
Total 3VP-Campaign Total 18 )

Voratch now orders ONSLAUGHT to save his Right
Flank supply line. Two Viper Legions are dispatched
to handle the threatening Cavalry Unit. In the center
a Harvester Unit is ordered to handle the Erenhead
Cavalry Unit.

The Vipers wound the Cavalry Unit & force it back
where a 2nd Viper Unit wounds it again badly
weakling the horsemen. The Harvester Unit
wounds the Cavalry Unit in the Center but then
is wounded itself in the counter attack.

(Upkeep-3 VP road VP hexes-Total 8-Campaign
Total-39)

The Erenheaders then launch a fierce COUNTERATTACK
using their Archers all along the battle line.

The Yeomen on the Left TAKE AIM & force the Ripper Unit
to retreat. A follow up volley from the Center Archers
fails to do any damage to the Rippers. On the Right
the Yeomen double volley drive the Harvester into
a rout forcing them to give up the road.

(Upkeep-2VP (1 road VP & 1 VP more Units in Center)
Total 5-Campaign Total-20)

Voratch determined to stop the threat of the enemy
cavalry & protect his Center orders PATROL CENTER
sending 2 Harvester Units to remove the horsemen.

The Blood Harvester in a frenzy destroys the Cavalry
in a display of OVERWHELMING POWER.

(Upkeep-3VP(2 road & 1 VP Lore Card) Total 11-
Campaign Total-42

Tabelu seeing a chance to block the enemies supply
road on his Left forgoes any other commands & simply
orders the weakened Cavalry Unit to force the
equally weakened Harvester off the road.

The horsemen force the Harvester off the road
& into the River destroying the Unit,The Cavalry
now advances to occupy the road.

Total-7-Campaign Total-22

The 2nd Hour

The Shadow Army strikes back with ATTACK RIGHT
to regain it's supply road.2 Viper Units are ordered
to regain the road from the enemy cavalry &
a Ripper Unit is sent against the Roc unit

The Viper Unit volley eliminates the weakened horsemen
& regains the road.but the Ripper has no luck against
the huge Roc & is wounded in the Roc's counter attack.

eliminating an enemy Unit adjacent to water)Total 13VP

The Erenhead commander makes a DESPERATE PLOY,
The remaining weak Cavalry on his Left is ordered up
& OVERRUNS the Ripper Unit to obtain the Right/Center
hinge position causing a wound to the Ripper Unit.

The Cavalry then turns to attack the Ripper Unit
wounding it again.

(Upkeep 2VP (1 road VP & 1 VP more Units in Center)
Total-9-Campaign Total 24

Voratch moves to end the threat of the enemy Cavalry
once & for all ,ordering ECHELON LEFT. A Harvester
Unit is moved up the take out the weak Cavalry Unit.
On the Left the Harvester is sent once again to
reoccupy the road.

The enraged Harvester Unit easily eliminates the
horsemen.

Tabelu with the destruction of his of his Cavalry
can no longer threatened the Shadows control
of the roads nor keep control of the Center.
He gives the orders to pull out & the Erenhead
Army withdraws to prepare for what be the final
battle to decide the cities fate.

This Game was close ,until it wasn't. The Scenario
selection seemed to favor the Erenhead
side but the Shadow side had 2 VP hexes behind
it's lines & within easy reach.

The Roc Unit was probably misused as it spent most
of the Game camping out on a VP hex, it should have been
moved out & another Unit sent to occupy the VP hex.

The 4th & final battle won't save Erenhead City as with
the Campaign VP Total the Shadow Army has it's
not possible for them to lose.
