Blood is thicker than Whiskey
This is my 3nd SoB Game It will be Solo to learn the Rules & using
the 4th. Mission in the the Adventure Book:

Search Party

I'm using 2 Heroes The Saloon Gal Lilly Downs & the
Gunslinger Wes "Texas Red" Franglier to keep things simple
the first few Games & to try out new Heroes. Both name
are just made up but Texas Red was inspired by the song "Big Iron".

Note that the dates are different from the Brimstone Story
given by FFP. I use my own Time line set about 20 years
earlier so that it would cover some actual historical events.
The towns mentioned all existed at the time.

The Back Story


Long Horn Saloon, Callville, AZ Territory April 4th, 1868

You Wes Franglier, the one they call Texas Red?

"Maybe, but I'm not looking for companionship , so move on
Saloon Gal"

The names Lilly & I ain't offering you no companionship, I want
to hire your gun.

"Lilly, what makes you think I'm for hire & if I were how could afford
my fee?

Mister Texas, I make a living reading men, your clothes are a mite worn
& your drinking the house rot-gut cause you can't afford better. You tapped
out & unless you got better prospects I'm all the chance you have of making
some money. So what is this fee of yours?

"Your an observant cuss, I'll give you that, OK I'm interested but my fee
depends on the job. What do you have in mind?

My cousin Emily Downs is missing, her & her daddy Rev. Downs were
coming back from a camp meeting over at St. George but they didn't make it.
Cowboys from the Rocking R found their buggy over by that old mine #16,
horse missing & poor Rev. Downs plumb torn in half. They followed some
tracks to the Mine entrance but all they found was Emily's umbrella.

"Hold on Miss Lilly, why didn't those ranch hands look in the Mine? and
why didn't the Sheriff investigate the murder? "

That's why I'm a hiring you, the cowboys & most folk around here are too
frightened of the Mines to go into them. Sheriff Shibell is over at the Circuit Court
in St. Ann & won't be back for a couple of more weeks, that no account Deputy of
his won't leave town while the Sheriff is gone. So there's no one else to help me.

Miss Emily besides being kin was always straight with me & didn't hold my occupation
against me like most of the respectable ladies in these parts, she even stood up to her
daddy on my behalf. If she's in that Mine I aim to find her & bring out dead or alive.
I don't care what they say about the spooks & critters I have to face to get her.
So what's your price to go with me?

"I'm just thinking no kin of mine would pay a plugged nickel to rescue me. Tell you
what, I've heard stories about those Mines & I think all that Hoo-Doo is just
tall tales but I'm curious. I'll go with you for $100, $50 now & $50 when we find your
cousin, can you handle that?

I can cover it but you don't get the upfront money until we leave tomorrow.
Where are you staying?

"Fair enough, I'm over the boarding house on Carson Street"

Carson Street! God you are hard up to stay in that cesspool . I'll rent a buggy
& pick you up around 10AM be outside I don't want to have to look for
you in that dump.

Carson Street Boarding house 10:08 AM, Saturday April 4,1868

"Damn woman, what's with that outfit, we're going into a Mine not to a dance hall".

Look Texas, I hired you for protection not my fashion consultant ,just so happens
Gals that wear clothes that make them look a man don't make much money in a Saloon.

" I see your point & you sure don't look like no man, move over I'll handle the reins"

Like Hell you will, I'm responsible for any damage to this rig & I won't chance no yahoo
driving it into a ditch. Now get on board we have a couple of hour ride to the Mine.

Dramatis Personas

Lilly Downs-Saloon Gal: in Side Bag,1 Bandage Token, Hold-Out Pistol, Lantern, Ancient Coin,
has Knock Out Punch

Wes "Texas Red" Franglier- in Side Bag 1 Dynamite Token, Pistol/ 6 Dead-Eye Shot, Concealed Flask,
has Reload

Note I do my Game Reports more to tell the Story the Game creates
than to give a rule by rule use account. However to better give an
understanding of how the Game flows I numbered each Turn.

The Game begins:

1 PM, April 5th Mine #16 entrance.

" Don't look like much, does it Lilly? just an old hole in the side of
the hill. Tain't much to generate all those spook tales probably no more
than some liquored up bandits at most holed up in there"

Could be but it don't matter anyhow we're gonna find Emily come Hell,
high water ,bandits or critters. Let me light up the Lantern & we'll go in.

(1) "Told you, it's just the normal darkness for a Mine, nothing spooky"
Texas runs ahead & looks into the next section, see it's just a Mining Room
up ahead.

Lilly with more caution moves slowly away from the Mine entrance.

The Mine Room is partly collapsed & Shafts of Light are visible
through the roof raising the Posse Spirit & strengthens their grit.

(2)The Mine seemingly ignores the intruders.

Texas pauses to let Lilly catch up, Lilly however is getting anxious
& spying the exit on her left moves toward it.

(3)The Mine continues to remain quiet.

The Gunslinger now follows Lilly toward the exit.

Lilly reaches the entrance to the next segment & looks down
a Passage curving off to the Right.

(4) The atmosphere of the Mine remains placid & Lilly begins to
think maybe Texas is right about the spooks & such just being tall tales.

Texas Red Moves up the Passage & finds another Long Passage &
Lilly moves up behind him.

(5) The Mine seems unaware of the Posses presence

The Gunslinger again slows his pace to let the Saloon Gal come up
besides him.

(6) The Posses luck holds as the Mine continues to be oblivious to them.

Texas moves to the end of the corridor & checks out the next segment &
informs Lilly another Mining Room is up ahead.

Lilly follows him up to the rooms entrance.

Raising the lantern up to get a better look at the rooms interior they
see Piles of Bones ,Lilly's Will Power deserts her & she loses 5 Sanity.
Texas Red also shaken loses 2 Sanity.

Lilly in a moment panic just feels that whoever/whatever took Emily
has been tipped off by some Traitor & tells Tex but they both
realize that's probably just nerves talking & put aside the notion .

Calming down & looking about the room they find a Clue, Emily's
bonnet.

The Clue gives the Posse Stubborn Resolve, they recover their lost Sanity.

(7) The Darkness does not respond to the Posse success

The Gunslinger & the Saloon Gal both move toward the next entrance.

(8) Darkness does still not respond.

Texas Red moves onto the next Entrance & finds a Rail Tunnel &
Lilly moves beside him to have a look.

They notice a Rail Switch but ignore it & then they both see in at the back of
the Room a large clawed Creature.

(9) At least the Darkness does not respond as the Creature moves to attack.

The Slasher unleashes a vicious attack on Lilly ,She reaches down & brings her
Grit & manages to keep her wounds at 2.

The Gunslinger pistol jams at first but he has the grit to calmly clear the chamber
& fire again this time hitting the Slasher twice. This dead-eye shot does Critical Damage
& his other shot also wounds reducing the Monster to 2 health.

Lilly caught off guard nevertheless tries to melee the Slasher bare handed fails & pulls
out her Hold Out gun but misses.

(10)The Darkness coiled deep in the Mine now is awakened & begins to move upward.

The Slasher again lashes out at Lilly but she again manages to come off with only 2 wounds.

Texas again unloads on the Slasher & kills it.

Lilly now moves into the Rail Tunnel & tries out a keep sake, a rare Ancient Coin that
her mother passed down to her which was suppose to have healing power. To her
surprise it works & she is restored to full health.

A check of the room reveals a Pistol which Tex Takes & Sack full of Gold Dust worth
$300.

(11) The Darkness hesitates sensing the death of it's minion.

Texas moves slowly trying to figure which of the room's 2 exits he should take.

Lilly without hesitation moves to the left side entrance & finds another Rail Room.

It might be a fatal mistake her Lantern reveals 6 shambling dead & a large Pile of Corpses.

(12) The Darkness now continues to advance. Putting out Encroaching Shadows.
The Posses feels the urgency to complete their Mission.

Texas Red lobs a stick of Dynamite besides Corpse Pile inflicts 5 Wounds & kills
a Hungry Dead beside it.

Lilly moves into range & fires Hold Out Gun doing Critical Damage & killing another
Hungry Dead.

(13) The Darkness now aroused move upward.

The Gunslinger & kills another Hungary Dead with his Dead-Eye shooting.

Lilly fires again doing Critical Damage & taking out a 4th Hungry Dead.

2 Hungry make it to Texas Red & attack doing between them doing 5 Wounds.


(14) The Darkness decides to Lay in Wait.

The Gunslinger again unloads with his Dead-Eye accuracy & kills another
Hungary Dead.

Lilly uses her Hold Gun again with deadly accuracy Critically wounding & taking
down the last Hungry Dead.

Catching their breath Lilly finds $ 25 in old coins & Tex recovers $50 in cash.

(15)The Darkness bides it time .

Texas feeling more Grit takes a step forward & kills the Corpse Pile which
thankfully had not spawned any more dead during the fight.

The Saloon Girl now moves toward the nearest exit.

(16) The Darkness holds to on the death of it's minions.

Texas moves to quickly to the entrance to the next section calling out it a Forked Path.

Lilly enters the section & discovers boxes of Explosives .The room is full of Explosives
& she grabs a stick of Dynamite . She also finds another clue one of Emily's shoes.

(17)The Darkness holds off to ponder it's next move.

The Gunslinger moves into the Forked Path .

Lilly continues on to the exit & looks into the next segment
finding a Big Room.

Texas helps himself to 2 sticks of Dynamite for his Side Bag.

Suddenly Lilly at the rooms entrance is ambushed by a Slasher,
Darkness has sprung it's trap.


(18) The Darkness again strikes & sends out a Night Terror to Ambush
the Gunslinger.

The Gunslinger is however faster but still takes 2 Sanity loss at the Monsters
presence both his shots at the Terror miss.

The Slasher attacks Lilly but she manages to avoid it's wicked pincers.


Lilly manages to lob her stick of dynamite ,it sails over the Slashers & bounces
around to it's other side & explodes taking the Monster out.

The Night Terror Moves & attacks Texas doing 4 wounds of damage

(19) The Darkness continues to move upward.

The Gunslinger takes 2 more Sanity drain to the Night terror but pulls out
a stick of dynamite from his side bag & throws over the Terror catching the Monster
full in the back & doing 6 wounds of damage.

Lilly moves back to help Texas Red & & melees the Night Terror giving
it 3 more wounds her follow shot up with the Hold Out Gun however misses.

(20) The Darkness still waits for an outcome.

Texas losing 2 more Sanity from the Terror & thus shaken misses.

Lilly manages to lose only 1 Sanity to the Creature again melees the Monster
but to no effect. Her Hold Out Gun Shot however is true & she kills it.

Texas relieved the fights are over takes a swig from his concealed flask
& restores his Sanity. Lilly fusses over his wounds & restores 1 of his Health.

Checking the room Lilly finds a Sack of Gold worth $300 & some Gold Nuggets worth $100

Texas Finds a bloody stack of Bills worth $50 & 1 Dark Stone Shard. he also decides
to go for more dynamite but fumbles & set off an explosion giving himself 6 wounds &
Lilly one.

Lilly uses her bandages to heals up Texas damage.

(21) The Darkness sends out Growing Dread

Texas moves slowly recovering Grit

Lilly moves to the entrance of the next segment an old
Blast Room.

She gasp , there's Emily lying on the floor surrounded by Monsters
a Slasher, 7 Hungry Dead & 3 Corpse Piles .



(22) The Darkness Holds letting it's Minions speak for it.

The Gunslinger moves up & lobs dynamite behind the Slasher
his aim is wild & it bounces back on a Corpse Pile doing 4 damage.
& Killing a Hungry Dead.

Lilly attacks the Slasher but her fists & gun have no effect & she suffers 1
Sanity loss.

The Slasher attack on her however gives her a wound.

The Hungry Dead Shamble Forward & 2 reach Lilly but fail to
do any damage. Fortunately the Corpse Pile do not Spawn

(23) The Darkness hesitates but a sense of Dread sends it forward.

Texas Red now throws dynamite behind the Slasher it takes some bad
bounces but still kills it the explosion also takes out another Hungry dead
but also catches Lilly for 4 wounds.

Lilly shots another Hungary dead & kills it. She looses a Sanity for the Dead
She takes advantage of the small break to heal up another of Texas wounds.

The remaining Hungry dead move forward.The Corpse Pile Spawn 2 more
Hungary Dead.

(24) The Darkness invokes Growing Dread & Texas feels a shadow on his soul
as his Dark Stone Shard responds to a Void Surge.

The Gunslinger thankful he loaded up on on dynamite tosses another stick
by the Corpse Piles .One Pile takes 4 damage & the previously damaged
Pile is reduced to it's last Health. A Hungry Dead also caught by the blast
is killed.

Lilly moves up to cover the body of Emily killing in melee another
Hungary Dead & taking out it's companion .

The Hungry dead shamble forward trying to reach the Posse.

(25)The Darkness emboldened by the carnage moves forward. The
Corpse Pile send out another Hungry Dead

Texas moves besides Lilly & Emily's prone body ,reaching into his Side Bag
he realizes he's out of dynamite. Instead the quickly uses his Pistol to
fire Dead-Eye into the wounded Corpse Killing it.

Lilly moves to the Corpse Pile with the singe Health & kills it in Melee,
she then pulls her Hold Out Gun & takes down another Hungry Dead.
She then manages to heal another of Texas wounds.

2 Hungary Dead attack the Gunslinger but fail to hit him. The remaining Corpse
Pile doesn't Spawn.


(26)The Darkness moves upward sensing release.

The Gunslinger puts 2 shots into the Corpse Pile ripping it &
killing it.

Lilly misses her shot on a Hungry Dead.

Hungary Dead attack Texas & Lilly but they avoid any damage.

(27) The Darks Advances & a Chill of the Grave sets in.

Texas loses a Sanity & his shots on the Hungary misses.

Lilly looses another Sanity & melees her Hungary Dead attacker
& kills it. then with her Hold Out Gun kills the one attacking Texas Red.

The remaining 2 Hungry move forward but can't reach the Posse.

Lilly heals the Gunslingers remaining wound.

(28) The Darkness advances filling the Posse with the feeling their on a Fools Errand
& giving strength to the remaining 2 Hungry Dead.

The Gunslinger pushes that thought aside & fires on the Hungary Dead approaching
him & killing it.

Lilly is more shaken & misses her shot on the final Hungry Dead.

The Hungry Dead moves & attacks Lilly but she avoids any damage.

(29)The Darkness senses the opportunity to escape the Mine advances up
to the 7th level.

Texas now ends the fight by gunning down the last Hungry Dead.

Lilly lifts Emily's body & finds she's still alive.

A quick check of the Room yields The Gunfighter 2 Dark Stone Shards &
$50 in Cash. Lilly picks up a Dark Stone Rock, a Vicious Axe & finds an
Iron Cross which looks expensive.

Fashioning a litter for Emily & leave the Mine, their return to Callville is
without further incident. The Gunslinger now with some of the money he
found gets a room at the Hotel. Lilly also takes a room with Emily & notifies
her brother in Utah that she's safe. The relieved brother promises a reward for the
safe return of his sister.

Lilly then goes to the Church & waits till the Deacon finishes droning on &
on to a few congregants before making a deal with him to sell the Iron Cross she found.

Texas Red goes to the Frontier Bank & seeing the Banners waiving gives
him new resolve but he here to sell his Dark Stone & gets $275 for his 3 shards.

Alas they also find the Town is in the mist of a Fever Plague but
nothing can dampen their Spirit & the both remain unaffected.


Evening August 7th, Long Horn Saloon

Hey Texas Red, You want a drink?

" Don't mind if I do Miss Lilly, bring me a bottle of your best Whisky
& a glass for yourself. Say I night be looking for some companionship"

I thought you never ask Texas.

Lilly-290 XP,$750 Gold, 3 Grit max, Spinning Kick, Sanity 15, Grit Max now 3-now at Level 2

Texas Red- 590 XP, 290XP, Catch Phase, Vendetta Daemons, extra
pistol, extra 1 grit-Now at Level 2 + 1 Corruption..
