Claustrophobia easy to pick up?
I just got LNOE about 2 weeks ago and still trying to get the rules down,"this site really helped,Thanks!" But as LNOE is my first board game other then games you find at your local toy store, the rules was a bit much at first as there could be a bunch of different ways things could go and I dont think the instructions cover every scenario which just leaves you guessing and reading the rule book every turn which kinda killed it for my wife on the first play through. Luckily my son took a real liking to it and were both starting to get it. But im starting to get into board games and looking to fill my shelfs with some games that look appealing to me and Claustrophobia was one of them.
So how would you rate the learning curve from LNOE to Claustrophobia? Also would you recommend this game or is it a one play wonder? |

RE: Claustrophobia easy to pick up?
What seemed to be the problem with LNEO and it's rules?
In my experience, LNEO is one of the more "simple" boardgames I have ever played. I don't know Claustrophobia but by the looks of it it uses more tokens and turns then LNEO so I think the learning curve might just be a little steeper. The problem with players going for LNEO is that they tend to overcomplicate things, ask to much questions about things that just don't matter to play the game. I am the reason God stopped watching. |

RE: Claustrophobia easy to pick up?
Claustrophobia is a really cool Game & you get a lot for the price.
The learning curve is fairly easy(IMO)the Game does play different from your usual Dungeon Crawls but in your case you haven't got a lot to unlearn. It's a 2 player Game period but I've done Solo Rules: The following rules/guides allow Claustrophobia to be played Solo. The Game is played in the usual sequence with the following modifications: Destiny Table-Roll # of die (usually 3)& note the #'s Then roll d 10 (the Destiny Chart has 10 choices consider #1 the top Left & #10 bottom Right.)-If d10# can be applied to the #rolled it's applied.Continue to roll d10 until all Destiny Die are used.Based on the # of possible choices that the Destiny Die # are eligible for you may roll whatever die appropriate(ie-1 die left add up all the possible eligible outcomes & roll appropriate die.-3 choices roll d3 ) Exceptions: If Demon Side has no TP may choose to place qualifying die on Destiny Chart #2 without d10 roll If No Trogs on the Board Tiles,Demon side MUST place all qualifying die on #2. Expending TP's-Demons roll d6. Even=spend as many TP's as possible.Odd= Hold TP's. Priority: -If have 5TP MUST buy Demon(NO d6 roll) additional TP's would need d6 roll. -Demon side will always spend TP's to reinforcement a battle tile(up to fig Tile limit) & place them without d6 roll additional TP's subject to d6 roll. Event Card Play- whenever opportunity to use Event Card comes up-roll d6:Even= Play/Odd= Hold.If a Card cannot be played hold. Application of Event Cards-if choice given to witch human warrior to effect assign each qualifying warrior a die # & roll for victim. If choice is to Location assign each Tile a die # & roll. Trog/Demon Movement-Will move toward Tile with largest # of human warriors Combat-Trog/Demon priority: -Any human warrior that has 2 or less open Lines (if choice Redeemer chosen otherwise warrior with lowest def #) -Human Warrior with lowest def # -multiple choices assign each warrior a die # & roll to select. Hit Line assignment-Roll d6 to select with of 6 lines are hit (reroll any already hit Line). If less than 6 Lines open adjust die roll accordingly ie: 3 Lines open roll d3. Tile Placement-Tiles are placed in way to most hinder humans if everything equal assign each entrance a die # & roll to select entrance to join the Game Board Tile. Human Initiative-Roll die for each Warrior in this order: Redeemer blond blade brown blade blond brute brown brute Then any extra die* * Then apply extra die to replace any warriors die, discard any die not used. Specific Event Card Modifications Panic-assign each Human Warrior a die # & roll appropriate die. in case of tie use warrior with lowest Combat,if still tie warrior with lowest def #,still tie roll a die for each tied warrior lowest # is effected. Don't overload him OD! LOL
Claustrophobia is an excellent game. I would say the learning curve is a little easier than LNoE. I believe my seven year old picked up Claustrophobia quicker than LNoE. Of course he owns all of LNoE, so there is a lot more content to take in. I recommend you pick up Claustrophobia if you are even the least bit interested. I do not think you would be disappointed. |

I tend to get carried away but at least I didn't lay the whole Holy Roman Empire vs Hell Projrct on him.
