Evil Elder- questions
1) So if a Town elder turns evil and his secret says do not discard and it gives +1 combat +1 wound, or whatever- do those cards attach to the main villain or stay attached to the evil elder?

2) When you kill that evil elder do the attached secrets get removed from game with that evil elder?

3) In my 3 player game against the scarecrow we had the evil elder Reverend dead and the random showdown location said that if we didnt solve an honor test the Reverend would become an evil elder— would this bring the evil elder back from the dead? We played it as NO since the reverend's name changed on the card when he became evil and he was dead

4) The hero can use as many combat dice as he wants to kill an evil elder but the villain can only use 1 to kill a town elder- correct? Does the villain get to choose to use 1 die to kill the town elder or is the villain REQUIRED?

RE: Evil Elder- questions
1, 2, and 4) Unless I'm recalling the rules totally inaccurately, you can't target the evil elder separately when you're attacking the monster. Effectively, the evil elder becomes part of the monster, for the purposes of combat with it. The +1 combat/wound is given to the monster, representing the aid the evil elder is giving. And any secrets that give more are also stacked with the monster.

3) If the reverend is dead, he cannot become evil. He doesn't come back to life, no.

Oh, and the villain always uses a single fight die to target an elder in the hunting party, yes. That's not optional.

RE: Evil Elder- questions
From the rulebook:
page 15 says to move the "evil" secrets from the elder when he turns evil over to the villain
page 19 says you can target the evil elder- just announce how many of your combat dice are being rolled for the attack before you roll- everything after the first hit (which kills the elder) won't do anything

RE: Evil Elder- questions
The way I understand is that if a dead elder would become evil they faked their death and still join the villian, unless they were evil then killed they stay dead.

Right, the rules say that when an elder dies, you turn their card sideways and keep their secrets with them. If it is later shown that they are evil, it is assumed they faked their death. (Why would the villian kill one of its allies?) This is also important because you can still investigate dead elders when someone else is starting a showdown, and if they are evil, they join the villian.

As for rolling against evil elders, you MUST announce ahead of time how many dice you are rolling against each evil elder. Killing evil elders earlier removes their bonuses from the villian, but any wounds scored on them beyond their limit (usually 1) are waisted and can't be transferred to another evil elder or the villian. The only way evil elders can get a wound without dice being allocated for them ahead of time is if the villian is down to his last wound. The elders must be killed off before the vilian can take its final wound.
