We're a little harsher than that with our Die rolling rules.

If it rolls out of the Dice Tray (built to help protect game components, table surface, and to keep people from bowling over all the little dudes) then its a re-roll, even if you like the result.

If the die goes off the table, then it automatically counts as the WORST roll possible for the roller. In LNoE that'd be a 1 for an attack or defence, or a guaranteed weapon break, etc.

This rule was made for one specific player we have that insisted on rolling each of the 8 dice in Betrayal at House on the Hill individually and from about 14 inches from the table surface because he was convinced that it would somehow give a better result.

Muahahah!

Ouch! Those rules do sound a bit harsh. LOL! Was the dice falling off the table a common thing for your group? We have it happen here and there, but not often enough to consider it a big concern.

Though, regardless of the result, we do figure any dice that fall on the ground are to be re-rolled. Our little house rule isn't quite that lenient. LOL! It only counts if the die/dice landed/land on the table. Then, if the result is good, it counts, if the result is bad it does not. I mean... heck, we need all the help we can get in Zombicide. LOL! We do use it in a lot of cooperative games, but it was Zombicide that caused our little house rule to be born.

Too many dice hit the floor at my place, drives my cats crazy since they never get to keep playing with "the awesome new thing that just made that satisfying sound and looks like so much fun to smack around"

We mostly have this issue with Betrayal. It doesn't come up much with most other games unless they involve a lot of dice.

RE: Goofy house rules?
one house rule we use to kind of increase players to stand in the same space is that a player can add one to a fight die for every additional hero in there space, it can only be used once per turn and only during the heros turn, also if it is billy and sheriff anderson it is a plus 2 ( any father would fight harder to protect their son)
another is when using locked door you (zombie) must choose to lock the the heros in or out if locked in the door can be opened from the outside.ect

Lol. It's hard to 'accidentally' roll the dice off the table when rolling in a dice tray with 1" (2.5cm) high walls, similar to this: Watchmen02

You'd really have to be throwing them HARD. Zombie17

RE: Goofy house rules?
not really... i used to play space fleet.. and the box lid was the dice tray.. you had to drop the dice into the lid from something like 12-18 inches. sides were 3-4" tall.. MANY MANY times dice bounced out.. no english on them. just straight drop.

seeing them come out of a tray with 1" walls ( on accident ) is entirely feasable. IMHO

That's why the felt on the tray. Helps deaden the die movement. They basically land and stick there like professional gymnasts.

Neither here not there though. Didn't mean to hijack this thread with a die rolling debate Zombie03
