New rule for cooperative
someone mentioned that, in a co-op game, if the center line has no minions, the players can not worry about the shadows piling up and just train over and over, never touching the center line and just using the Hungry Dead to remove all their starting cards. So....

(Cooperative Play) Holding Back the Dark: if a complete turn goes by without a certain amount of players acquiring cards from the Center Line, then destroy two non-minion cards with the highest Investigation value and replace them as usual. That certain amount of players is:
-two to three players: (1+)
-four to six players: (2+)

Or you can be more direct and, instead of destroying two non-minion cards you simply take the top card off the deck and add it to the shadows.

RE: New rule for cooperative
Involve the omen die [and all other mechanics that revolve around it, like the hero and villain triggers], and simplify it?

No Time to Think
"At the end of your turn, if you did not buy a defeat or acquire [whatever the phrasing would be] from the center row, roll the omen die. On the roll of 0 [Omen], place all cards from the center row into the [technical word for discard pile...] and replace them with new ones from the [main deck]."

I leave the question of "resolve mysteries from left to right" or "ignore mysteries" unanswered.

I don't remember seeing a rule for the center deck emptying or not. In this mode, it could be either shuffled and recycled, or it could be an alternate villains win condition.

IIRC, some cards don't go to the [discard] when used, but are removed from the game (see: that one card that gives honor), so reshuffling wouldn't be a problem there.

OR

Village Rumors
"At the end of your turn, if you did not acquire a card from the center row, and there are no minions in the center row, roll the omen die. On the roll of 0, gain a Dark Secrets."
