Paint recommendations
For the basic set of plastic models, I was wondering the best kind of paint to get to paint them up nicely. Any brands or types I should try first? I don't want to ruin the pieces or screw this up.

RE: Paint recommendations
I used Vallejo. Great color range and great paint.

I am the reason God stopped watching.

RE: Paint recommendations
I use Games Workshop's paints. They do great coverage on the models especially their new(ish) foundation range. And their washes are great for lazy painters (like me). Unfortunately their paints cost an arm and a leg! Vallejo are also a top of the range paint company. If you are just starting out I would go for value for money. Let us know how you get onWatchmen02

RE: Paint recommendations
I recently had a great amount of success with Testors enamel paints. Use the matte/flat colors, and they come out great. They are made for plastic models. The secret to making this work is to use the matching Testors enamel thinner. I also used a matte acrylic sealing spray. I just painted my last 2 figs of the original 8 with this combination, and they look nice and matte w/o any stickiness at all. Before that, I was using a big thing of generic thinner from the hardware store. My washes did not mix too well, and those figures are somewhat sticky still, even with an acrylic finishing spray over them.

...or skip the hassle of thinner and use acrylics like the Vallejos mentioned above Watchmen02. Then you can follow SamuraiTrev's tutorials more easily too.

Be sure to post pics of whatever you do and let us know how it works out. I always love seeing people's paint jobs. I will post pics of my Sally and Johnny soon. Zombie13

RE: Paint recommendations
Thank you everyone, I will be looking out for these after Christmas. It may be some time before I finish doing all the painting. I really appreciate everyone's help and contributions.
*now I'm headed to the miniatures pix section on the site*

RE: Paint recommendations
I use MBGI-WAP Artists acrylic colour set, it was a 24 tube set from
hobby lobby. Not sure if this compares to other paints, but the work
I've done lately (the ones I haven't posted yet (yes there comingWatchmen02)
but I've done some very detailed work.
I bet your thinking...
"Pred I've seen all your minis already"
"well TZG, I never posted the Growing Hunger Heroes..."
"Pred, your making this long post of anticipation over 4 Heroes?"
"No TZG, not just those 4 Heroes, I've been busy with IFOS!"
"that sounds cool I guess..."
"oh, that doesn't meet your appetite... oh... ok, well how about if I
throw in some FANG pics!"
"WHAT! you've got some FANG minis too! cool Pred! when you gunna
post those?"
"well TZG im in the middle of painting both IFOS and FANG, but I am
holding back on IFOS because my game group is pretty into FANG,
but I will post my last 4 LNOE pics soon, just need to figure out my
base colors for them"
"ya know Pred, we were wondering why you put all the different color
sand, on the bases of your Heroes but your Zombies have dirt and
grass type bases, why is that?"
"eh, I just thought it would be easier to recognize the Heroes on the
board from the zombies with the stand out colors. Speaking of the
base of the characters, I hope you guys like what I did with the others,
I went out of the box with the concept, and I hope you guys think
there as cool as I think"
"Awesome Pred, hurry up and post them!!!"
"pushy pushy TZG, pushy pushy"

RE: Paint recommendations
errr...I guess i am poor. I use the acryllic paint sets I buy at CVS, Walmart or whatever. The ones that come in the the strips of grouped colors on the card-backing. I also use some that come from Michaels - the ones in the blastic bottles. I just mix the colors to get the shade I want from the 12 or so colors I own. I DO use a hobby style finish on them, though for Flat or Gloss (I forget the name - I think they are out of business.....I must look them up , becasue I think they have solved my sticky mini problem).
