The CD

The CD
My MC is rather overwhelming & in trying to get the Miniatures
assembled I've mostly overlooked everything else. But in
mucking around the box today I found the CD under the
Tile/Counters Sheets.

I gave it a play & I think it's one of Soundgirl's best efforts.
I usually play the Game CD's when setting up the Game
but not during the Game (AToE/LNoE) itself as it too
distracting. The CD's have a running beat that just
doesn't correspond to the Games action.

The SoB music is more subdued in most cases you could
play it while Gaming it has a lonesome somewhat Celtic
flavor that blends well with exploring the mine.

It has 2 Vocals which sort do break the mood as I can't
see the posse breaking into song & the last track is
set in the Saloon & you can hear the Saloon chatter in
the background.

There is so much to SoB that the CD is easily overlooked
but it's well worth a play.

RE: The CD
I had wondered if it was Soundgirls voice on the vocals, so I PM her, not expending an
answer for some time for obvious reasons.

But she found time to check on TZG & answered me the next day. Yes it's her on the vocals.
She also confirmed that the Froggers are consume getting SoB out-she says they
are doing nothing else. She also mention they are getting a lot of hate mail
over shipping & the fan created Mutation Cards that were being sold which
they asked the creator to take down due to IP infringement.

Venting and frustration I can understand, but hate mail is inexcusable.

As for the fan-made cards, they were really well done, but FFP are completely correct and within their rights to ask that they be taken down.

I do wonder what specific thing/s about the cards that were actionable? I've heard it was the use of actual in-rulebook wording, but I wonder if the fonts or card designs, or the fact that the cards were being sold that was the final straw in the matter? Or some combination of all?

RE: The CD
Likely several reasons. Brimstone font, creature silhouettes, etc. However, the fact that people were making money off of it was probably the big reason.

RE: The CD
The selling of the Cards probably was the tipping point (although everything mentioned had
to be a factor) FFP really had to ask the guy to stop-especially as he was creating more
Cards using their IP.

My guilty pleasure is a set of the Mutation Cards.

RE: The CD
Oh yeah, I'm certain that the money aspect of it was the last straw for FFP, but it always makes me wonder/worry about what a company is going to get upset about when you use any actual art or rule materials for custom content, even if it's made not for profit.

RE: The CD
WAY late to chime in on this but I don't think Flying Frog has any problem with custom content. I mean just look at their games! They include more random tokens that have no actual use in the game beyond being there to help inspire you to make your own custom content than any company I've ever seen. I tend to agree that it was the making money that turned the tide on this one, and they're completely right.

Anyway, the real reason I'm here is to comment on the amazing soundtrack!!!! DUDE! It was so good! It's the first soundtrack that I didn't just use as a novelty. I literally played it on repeat for like 4 hours last night while we gamed! Applause to the sound team and Mary at FFP. When you first made this post OD, I was dubious. I enjoyed the LNoE soundtrack but not when playing the game. I just listened to it for fun on car trips that first few months after I bought the game. It didn't really make me think... ZOMBIES! you know? Then the other various game tracks were just too similar

This one I felt set the perfect mood and really matched the era and the feel. Some of the tracks were ones I've heard before. At least one of the old hymns was featured in Bioshock infinite and if I'm not mistaken was on the soundtrack for "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou" Just a fantastic compilation and the first FFP soundtrack I will come back to to set the mood for my games as they were intended.

Top marks!

RE: The CD
I wish I was able to snag some of those custom cards. That kid did some seriously leet work. Though... once the files are out, you can do it yourself at cost.
