Timber Peak - First Impressions

RE: Timber Peak - First Impressions
The upgrade system is backwards compatible, so will work with the previous Heroes.

The upgrades fall into three categories: Melee, Ranged, and General. There are two ways to play with them:
A) - shuffle them all together and draw from the top.
B) - shuffle them in separate piles based on category, and choose which pile to draw from.

I haven't gotten around to playing this yet, but I like the separate piles method. This allows you to specialize for your Hero, and there is less risk of drawing an upgrade that isn't particularly useful.

RE: Timber Peak - First Impressions
Bokya the sneak peak features specific upgrades for each hero and is called Advanced Abilities which needs experience to be unlocked

Timber Peak feature a new more complete version of the advanced abilities still counting experience to be unlocked and it's called Hero Upgrades, the hero upgrades are general and can be applied to any hero as long he get enough experience points to buy a Hero Upgrade Deck Card.

Alternatively since the Hero Upgrades are random and the Advanced Abilities Defined you can use both.
The advantage for heroes with the possibility to acquire a Specific Advanced Ability is to know in advance what he will get.

A good measure for the power of a weapon is how cool it looks...

Actually, the upgrade system is really awesome. A hero gets an Experience Point for every time he/she wounds a zombie. That is important to remember. Most zombies die with one wound, but you only have to WOUND the zombie, not necessarily kill it in order to gain a point. So, for example, if you wound a Zombie Hero, but it was not the last wound (in other words, the Zombie Hero is still around) you still get a point for that.

If you have no other upgrades at the time, you can cash in three Experience Points for an upgrade. After that, each subsequent upgrade costs 3 + the number of upgrades you already have (Ex: You have one upgrade, the next will cost you 4).

In addition to that, you can also instead choose to purchase the boost for an existing upgrade you have. They just give you yet another power.

The upgrades are in three different categories. One for strength, one for range attacks, and to be honest I forget what the other was. You can choose which aspect to upgrade for each character. Even better, unlike the Advanced Abilities supplement, there aren't upgrades specific to each hero. There is just a deck for each upgradeable aspect, and you draw at random. Meaning any hero can wind up with any upgrade. This also means you can easily use your heroes from the original game.

Overall, the new upgrade system is just another awesome thing to make this one of the best expansions for this game yet.

The upgrade system is completely separated from the heroes, making it backwards compatible.
