played that this weekend. couple members of our group went to a game store and played it before we got a chance to break out mine.. so a couple members had experience.

you basically play an animal group ( reptiles, birds, mamals, arachnids, insects etc ) and have a number of programable moves and things to do on a flowchart. once, in turn, everyone has placed their markers, then you 'run' the program and work out the results onthe board.. migration.. predation.. adaption.. etc. deck of cards on the side bar are depleted 5 at a time till the ice age hits.. so can be 5 rounds or so, depending on # of players... very cometative as there are fewer choices on the board than there are player markers. so placing first and placing first in a location gets you best / first pics of limited resources. lonng play. took us about 4.5 hours.

Play time can swing quite a bit depending on WHO is playing and how many people there are. You really just need to get people to hurry up and make up their mind. You can remove a couple of the cards to make the game shorter or even seed the ice age card randomly in the last 1/2 of the deck.

RE: dominant species
we pulled 1 card to make the ice age hit on our last full draw of 5, we played with everybody but insect. and only 2 people had played before.. so we were still in 'learning curve' mode.

arkham horor is the same way. more pople = more time. less experienced players = more time. more expansions = more play time.

many times we will play 6 player and at least 2-3 expansions.. so our arkham games can go a few hours too.
