This game looks very interesting and I may pick it up one day.
One of the only downsides from the reviews I have read is the comment shared by some that the CO-OP game is too easy.

My wife strongly prefers CO-OP games and I'm wondering if you can easily adjust the difficulty of CO-OP play?

Understand the expansion includes solo play. Can two people play using the solo rules as a kind of additional CO-OP variant?

Thanks,

Bob
Honestly, I've found the problem with co-op in the base game is that most of the monsters don't stage up very well, other than the werewolf. But with the expansion, the new monsters (particularly the Unspeakable Horror and the Gargoyle) stage up really well.
The Game is only competitive in the sense that each player
is trying to find & take on the Villian first. The players are
not in conflict with each other,so your fighting the "Game"
& not each other. However if your wife feels this is not
to her taste then Co-op mode it is.

An easy way to adjust Co-op difficulity is to play with less
Heros If your each playing 1 Hero & using the Co-op shadow track & advanced Co-op Mystery Phase Chart,it should not be
"too easy"Co-op's are more challenging using fewer Heros.

The both playing Solo, isn't necessary just use the Co-op
rules with all the bells & whistles.

AToE is a really great game & whats easy or difficult is rather
subjective.Get the Game & see for yourselves,I think you
will find it a challenging gaming experience.
