Any suggestions for painting the last night on earth figures? Should I use Flat black primer or Krylon Flat Black Plastic paint as a base coat? Any other tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

I use Vallejo Game Color paints and use their white primer for a base coat. Vallejo paints come in dropper bottles so you only use as much as you need.
The first thing you have to do before painting is wash your miniatures in warm soapy water to remove any residue left from the moulding process.
Then I follow the old base colour - Ink wash (Vallejo Inks) - Dry brush highlights.

I absolutely hate oil paints. I don't like the shine. So I use good old-fashioned acrylics. I've always been more comfortable with them anyhow and I like the "flatness" when they dry. I then go over them with a thinned black and allow it to settle in the crevices. Makes for a cool effect. Especially on the zombies. I "might" change it when I get to the heroes though. I don't want to make them too dark.
I agree. Acrylics every time!
Also, LSD, don't forget to varnish with a clear varnish after painting.
As these are game pieces they take a fair few knocks during play.
Not much else to say really that hasn't already been said. Just take your time and enjoy yourself. I find the painted minis look a lot better than the plain dull colours. Look forward to seeing your results.
Also, on the soft plastic like lnoe minis I would suggest washing them with a little soapy water first, then letting them dry. These minis have sometimes an oily residue that can stop the acrylic paints from sticking well. At least in my experience.
I also use a clear coat on minis that are getting manhandled a lot. Stuff I have been using is the Folkart clearcote Acrylic Sealer the number is CA788. The stuff works like a charm but do it in light strokes cause it can go glossy on ya if your not careful. It also brings up the colours and details and it is a matte finish.
Hi all. I'm brand new here and what better way to say hello than by bringing an old thread back from the dead :P
Looking at some of the great paint jobs on this site has inspired me to start painting my own set. I'm a little concerned about how soft the plastic is though. I'm afraid if the models bend or get get twisted somehow the paint may crack and flake off. Have any of you experienced this or is it a non-issue? Also, if it is an issue, are there any steps I could take to prevent it?

I painted them with plain ol' acrylic paint and no primer. They're fantastic. I don't throw them around or anything like that though. My girlfriend just twisted one of the figures that we painted and there was absolutely no cracking or pealing of any kind.
I just started painting some metal miniatures for some "3rd party" characters I'm making for the game. I changed it up a bit though. I bought some white primer because I was having a ton of trouble with the acrylic paint adhering to the metal. Now it's going quite well.
If I paint any more LNOE figures, I'll be using this "new" method. That's for sure.

Hey all! I too had the same question as rat. I come from the old school of miniature boardgames ( warhammer 40k,battletech) so the mini's are pewter and hard plastic. I've never painted rubbery plastic before. I know to wash them well but I was concerned about the paint cracking especially because my zombies have an uncontrollable urge to do the thriller! So they get bent around alot. I have many acrylics and citadel colours to use as well as plenty of inks and washes so I'm good to go. Thanks guys for the tips.
