By Hasbro!!!!!......ok it uses the old Battleship name but its a miniatures
space combat Board Game & the ship figs look cool.I got into Battlefleet Gothic but it never really did it for me but this just interests me.

Not sure why but it seems to offer a space combat experience without
fiddley rules but with enough detail to give that ship on ship feeling

Here's the Blurb

Battleship Galaxies is a space combat miniatures board game that is a distant cousin to the original Battleship game. The two opposing forces represented in the game, the human Intergalactic Space Navy and the alien Wretcheridians, are represented by 20 highly-detailed starship miniatures. There are figures for several different ship types and each has an individual reference card that defines the characteristics of that ship (e.g. weapons, movement, shields). The game is played on a star field hex board.

The game is scenario driven and each scenario will define the goal of the game as well as initial board set-up. Each turn, players have a certain number of energy points that can be spent to perform actions, such as movement or fire. Combat is resolved by rolling special dice, a ten-sided die with letters and an eight-sided die with numbers. The resulting letter-number combination is compared to the target ship’s reference card to determine the result. Hits on a ship are indicated by placing colored pegs in the figure’s base.

Here's what comes in the box:

2 Gameboards
20 Plastic ships with bases and stands
24 Ship cards
2 Screens with side supports
2 Coordinate dice
35 Blue pegs
40 Red pegs
2 Energy boards and markers
72 Tactic cards
8 Obstacle tiles
8 Discovery tiles
Victory Point tile
Rules
2 Quick-reference cards

Of course it could be a real money pit as I'm sure Hasbro is
planning to churn out expansion ships.

I saw as bit about this on the heroscape site. The ships connect to the bases by a ball joint, so you can pitch them to look like they are turning. They look really cool.
Very intersting! I've always been intrigued by that type of gaming as well, but they rules always looks so daunting.

Same here SV but this Game seem to promise a streamlined
rules set & the figs are so cool & really don't need painting
(unless you want to as they are not just plain bare plastic)
so I preordered.

i just got my copy tonight and played thru the sample game.

plays real well.

I loved space fleet ( like gothic only better )

reading the rules, it looks like it should have expansions out.

anyone hear about any expansion sets yet?

i'm pumped!

My copy came yesterday afternoon,so no play but I read the rules( & Comic).
The Rules are very smooth & it's great to see a tactical space battle game without a ton of rules
that still gives you a feeling of real ship to ship combat.

The ships are very impressive, even better than the pics, like SG very pleased.

I have a feeling Hasbro is going to make thes HS in space, the rules mention
future expansions & the cards are # coded so you will be able to keep
track of which will go with what expansion.

Egads, I'm gonna have to get this!

Thanks OD!
Interestingly enough, I was just reading about this today hehe. Like someone mentioned earlier, the reviewer stated that it was in sore need of an expansion, but otherwise he loved the game. After I finish buying the rest of the LNOE expansions, I may have to give this a try...

If you're interested, the review I was reading was here. It was quite entertaining ^_^

The Reviewer obviously wanted more ships for bigger battles which is cool but I would not say there is a "sore need".
Some of the Missions allow you to build your own fleet & in any case it's fairly easy to design Missions.

The Rules limit you anyway as your not allowed 2 of the same named ships in your fleet,so 2 Everests( the big battlewagon) even if
you had them still can't be used together.

It will be interesting to see how Hasbro develops the Expansions, they promise other factions but it would be nice if they
also provided new ship types for the Base factions.

I'm thinking of trying to mash up the Game with the board game Imperium to provide a stragetic base in which to
set up the space battles.
