Can a hero cut past a corner in a building? For example,

HC
ZO Can the hero (H) go directly to the open space (O) which cuts past the corner inside a building (.C.)? All these spaces are inside the building for clarification, we are not talking about doors.

The (Z) is for Zombie of course, but we had this argument even if the Z space was just another open space. My wife said the way the board looks that you would have to go down one and the over one to the right (using two movements). So can you go directly H --> O
Yes. Corners do not interfere with hero movement, except in the "double wide doors" that occur in the mansion house (which, as doors, have to be gone through straight).

By this being the exception, the normal rule that corners do not interfere with movement is reinforced.

Now if the pattern were (which is possible only in scenarios with special tile placement):

There are special rules for that. (Without looking for them, I believe a student can get through for free but a non-student needs to roll.)
And zombies only interfere with movement if you move into a square with a Zombie, and just appearing to cutting one of its corners slightly is not going into the square. No pinch issues with Zombies.

This does of course mean that if the zombies are on both sides, such as when laid out in a checkerboard, you can walk thru them unscathed.
