Was in situation where player had four zombies to fight. Each zombie is considered one fight. So based on the wording of cards (like Doc Brody, County Physician)...could the player heal between fights? Like fight zombie number one, gain a wound, that fight over...heal with card...begin fight with zombie #2.

The "not during a fight" clause is there so you can't go into a fight with 2 of 3 wounds taken and wait to see the outcome before deciding to use a healing item or not.
hmm, I was playing the cards that if you ended your movement or were already in a square with a zombie, you couldn't play the cards.... Am I doing it wrong?
