If I was you I would get the games in this order:
ATOE
FANG
IFOS
I cannot put COPE in the list as I don't have it myself, yet.

It depends... i own ATOE and LNOE now, if you want a mini game, you should take IFOS, but in the same time it's very like LNOE except it seems you have a more choice in the gameplay between for E.T comparing it to zombies. If you want to try something different, grab ATOE, with Coast Expansion, minis are only here to change location and the game itself could have be a card only game. I only played it solo, but i'm looking for the competitve play cos it seems to be written for, and in my opinion, it's better cos you have to challenge the game(slaying the evil) and in the same time trying to block your opponent and avoid to be blocked by him. So you have a kind of 3 ways to balance and so criticals decisions to make.
Imo you should try AToe if you plan to play it with the competitiv mode or you want a different gameplay, if not, pickup IFOS and you will be able to create enormous maps full of martians and zombies and human...

I think something to consider is that ATOE plays better with expansions so is the choice between ATOE with expansion and the others or just ATOE base game ?

FANG because it is something different than LNOE. It has cool mini's and the corny b-movie actions is something wich is just right up your alley mate!

FanG is also very playable solo. Throw in coop, team, and competive mode with up to 8 players and you've got yourself a hell of a game! Its a very excellent theme as well
