The Last Revelation of Gla'aki - Old Dwarf - 10-11-2014 05:40 PM

A young Ramsey Campbell began his writing career with a short story 'The Inhabitant of the Lake "
in imitation to HP Lovecraft & launched his GOO Glaaki into the Mythos. Now Campbell, who many
consider the greatest living Horror writer, in the Autumn of his life has revisited the Mythos in
"The Last Revelation of Gla'aki" bringing the talents of a seasoned writer not imitating Lovecraft but
in his own image of Lovecraft's Mythos.

The novella tells the story of Leonard Fairman a University archivist (Birchester U of course)
to collect a donation of all 9 volumes of The Revelations of Gla'aki ( note the spelling change)
found in the Sea Side Town of Gulshaw. No copies of the books were known to have survived
so the value of the donation is priceless.

Fairman arrives in Gulshaw on what he expects to be a day visit but things are not as
simple as they appear. The town folk go from being a little off center to odd & the
collection process stretches to days. Campbell is a master of letting a little wrongness creep in
& build but not revealing too much at a time. The ending is chilling.

Well, this is the last of my October Mythos reads, it's been fun.
