Abaddon is abandon - Old Dwarf - 12-05-2016 03:15 PM

Well at least it's KS Expansion "Shattered Command"
which had a Goal of 12K but will be lucky to reach half that.
(alas as a backer I really wanted this to succeed).

Abaddon the base game came out several years & seemed
(to me at least) like a winner. It was a C&C Game with a
cool Si-Fi Theme and the best figures of any C&C Game.

3 Types of Giant Robots + human Inf. I means what's not
to like? But it never really picked up any Buzz, the publisher
Toy Vault supported it with a couple of bonus Missions and
then silence Zombie12

Now suddenly Toy Vault announces & starts a KS for an
Expansion of this basically dead game. The KS is a bargain
the Expansion is only $15 and you can also get the Base Game
and the Expansion for $40.

Due to the size of the Game shipping outside the US is a bear
and Toy Vault isn't doing much to advertise the KS.

For me it's a "WTF" were they thinking starting a KS with no
advance build up for an Expansion to a Game that most
never heard of then doing little to promote after the fact.

The real shame is that Abaddon is a good game and the KS
Expansion adds some cool stuff to it but Toy Vault has just
mishandled it from the beginning.

Well my batting average is ZERO on KS Si-Fi Games. I had pledge Mars Wars by Worthington Games
(the Hold The Line system publishers. It was a Block Game whose concept was conflict on Mars
between China & the US and also had a Bug (think Star Ship Troopers) Army.

It was a $5000 Campaign that in 3 days went to just over $16,000 & was headed towards it's 2nd
Stretch Goal. The bottom began to fall out & with just over 2 days left had fallen to just under
$12,500 in pledges and Worthington pulled the plug.

The drop started when they put up a rather vague how to play vid. and could not provide
rules nor even the box contents. The SG frankly were extra blocks & missions that should have
been part of the core game. In general there wasn't much incentive to KS pledge vs just
waiting for retail release (even price wise- even shipping was more expensive than an online
store).

Still I like the concept and hope they reboot an updated KS.

Well I may get another chance at bat in Mars Wars.
Worthington Games is working on a relaunch.

This time they have EU Friendly shipping and the rules
will be formatted for the upcoming KS relaunch so you
know exactly what you will be getting.

"If you didn't have bad luck, you'd have no luck at all".

I've had a good record with board games. Lots of slow delays, but, pretty much all successes and showing progress.

Now, video games... I've had, I'd say, 60% success. Pretty abyssmal. A lot of last-minute-changes that make the whole thing worthless.

In general, physical products have been more successful; ephemeral/digital ones, not so much. My experience.

In fact I just had a KS board game delivered: March of the Ants + Expansion.

I still have 4 KS that I'm waiting on to be completed ,the ever waiting SoB Mine Cart Wave 2, Cuthulhu Wars 2
(just got an email it's in the US but on super secret Lock down by Customs) then The Cult & Slaughterville
update).

Worthington Games seems content to keep banging it's head against the KS wall, they have a new KS "Enemies of
Rome" a light historical game up which funded in a couple of days then the juice runs out & they start bleeding
pledges. The SG keep being $10K apart & thus they never even make the 1st one plus there not that great.
