I've had a lot more fun and enjoyment out of Hero Quest and the games don't take half a day. (like Descent). Am I saying Hero Quest is a better game? For me personally, yes. Better miniatures, back story, mission intros, dungeon furniture (how cool?), learning curve, accessability for gamers young or old, fast set up time. Don't get me wrong I like the fact Descent has corridor and room sections (much like Space Hulk and Advanced Hero Quest) but the game is strongly in the overlord's favour. I hear this has been fixed with Descent 2nd Edition. I wanted to like Descent so much but the mechanics just didn't suit me. Hero Quest IS more simple and perhaps not for the veteran who demands more of a challenge i.e play for hours and get repeatedly battered. What I'm trying to say is just because somethings a bit straight forward I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes I want a quick game in an hour. Or maybe play 2 quests in a couple of hours. Using Last Night on Earth as a benchmark of 10 I would give Hero Quest a solid 8 Descent 6 Hero Quest 25 ed. has 50+ quests too! Hope this helps, Ilike to ramble... :EDIT: 2 more stretch goal have just been smashed. 6 extra equipment cards and a captive assassin miniature. There's gonna be more stuff to come. GET ON THIS BANDWAGON!!! |
