The Hollows
The Hollows series (also called the Rachel Morgan series) is a series of eleven mystery novels, six short stories, one graphic novel,
and one compendium resource by Kim Harrison, published by HarperCollins Publishers, in an urban fantasy alternate history universe
and set primarily in the city of Cincinnati and its suburbs. The alternate history is built upon two premises:
the recent open existence of magical and supernatural species, primarily witches, vampires, and werewolves, with the human population;
and the historical investment of Cold War military spending in genetic engineering as opposed to the Space Race, which resulted in the accidental
release of a virus via a genetically modified tomato in the 1960s that killed a significant portion of the human population.
The series is set approximately forty years after this plague, referred to as 'The Turn' within the series.

The series is told in the first-person point-of-view of Rachel Morgan, a detective witch who works with local law enforcement agencies and faces
threats both mundane and supernatural in origin. The series also focuses on Rachel's relationships with her partners, a living vampire and a pixy,
as well as her personal relationships with males of different species.

The above is the official blurb sound interesting ? A Pixy really! Males of different species! If I had read this before I would have passed.
BUT I didn't... I picked a book called "Into the Woods" a month ago (I didn't see anything else at the book store that interested
me,& I like stuff about mysterious places plus my wife feels bad if I don't find something to read.

When I checked it out at home it was a collection of short stories several were based on the Hollows (never was anything about woods).

This woman can write & I was sucked into the Hollows, picked up all 11 books & have read 3 of them (their titles are mostly based
based on Clint Eastwoods Movies-just another weird touch).

*Dead Witch Walkingrow. The novel's title may specifically allude to the 1995 film of that name, or the book upon which that film was based.
*The Good, the Bad, and the Undead: An allusion to The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966), the final installment of the Dollars trilogy.
*Every Which Way But Dead: An allusion to Every Which Way but Loose (1978).
*A Fistful of Charms: An allusion to A Fistful of Dollars (1964), the first installment of the Dollars trilogy.
*For a Few Demons More: An allusion For a Few Dollars More (1965), the second installment of the Dollars trilogy.
*The Outlaw Demon Wails: An allusion to The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976). (In the United Kingdom, this novel was released as Where Demons Dare,
which does also allude to a Clint Eastwood film, namely Where Eagles Dare (1968).)
*White Witch, Black Curse: An allusion to White Hunter Black Heart (1990).
*Black Magic Sanction: An allusion to The Eiger Sanction (1975).
*Pale Demon: An allusion to Pale Rider (1985).
*A Perfect Blood: An allusion to A Perfect World (1993).
*Ever After: An allusion to Hereafter

Anyway good reads, she pulls off the Hollows as a consistant alternative world, the characters are well developed (even the Pixy). The
action is non stop & humor is well done plus the sex isn't bad either.

OD

Sighing like the night wind and sobbing like the rain,—
Wailing for the lost one that comes not again:
