In LNoE that'd be a 1 for an attack or defence, or a guaranteed weapon break, etc. This rule was made for one specific player we have that insisted on rolling each of the 8 dice in Betrayal at House on the Hill individually and from about 14 inches from the table surface because he was convinced that it would somehow give a better result.
