Well the scale of FoD is way different from AToE,but the general
theme of finding the & then confronting the evil enity
is a good fit(as mentioned).

Ghost Stories does appear very close but the "Far East"
setting dosen't grab me like AToE early 1800's US setting.

Betrayal at Hill House-I' never played(my group doesn't
care for "Trator"type games)but I know many people like it
& its ebay prices are impressive.

I've seen where a few people have got their hands on AToE
at GenCon over on BGG so I hope we can get some early
player reviews.
