for my custom L shapes Ive tried just a simple grid with stuff drawn on it...but most players didnt like it due to it taking away from the imersion. Once I figured out how to print the undead inferno L shapes on my printer I cut it into 3 sections and used the blank side of stock game L shapes. After using a label printer for clear cut pick-up and special effect directions I took a red felt marker to it to paint the aftermath of the undead (blood splatter on the wall in the closet...YAY pick up revolver!).
