RE: OD Returns-New Project
Details...details …..details.

Today I'm doing spear shafts,shields,spear/ax heads/
hair & going blind!

Not that painting 10mm Strands is not detail painting
but today I'm going from detail
brushes to fine detail brushes to insane detail brushes.Takes forever.

After this is a Dark Tone wash & then an Ash Grey dry brush on the Tunics
& the Oak brown on the wooden shields spear shafts get a Harvest brown highlight.

Tomorrow I'll paint up the Strand bases.

RE: OD Returns-New Project
The Strand (all 12) are painted up completing the Shadow Army
figs.I'm taking it easy paint wise for the rest of the day.

Tomorrow I'll cut the strands from the Sprunes & glue them to the
Game Bases. Then box them up & bring out the Elf Army for
painting.

Judging by the time it took to do the Shadow Army the Elf Army
should take a week.

OD

PS-I lied about taking it easy instead I did the 12 Orc Strands bases
so the Shadow Forces are done.I also painted up the Arunath Giant
for the Elf Army (wanted to make sure my lt.Flesh paint didn't dry
out before I got to him).

RE: OD Returns-New Project
Finished up the Great Bear & stored him & the Arunath Giant.
Painted up the Dire Wolves (Shadow Black/Wolf Grey highlight)
& the Eagles so there are ready to base.

I did the Elf Flesh on the Witch Queen & 2 Command strands +
all 12 Archer Strands.

I have 12 Units of Elf Spear Inf (24 Strands) to do
the flesh work on but it takes forever so for the
rest of today I'm painting up the elf Command Units,
witch Queen & Druid.

Snow Elf Command-White Tunics/Angel Green Cloak
Forest Elves-Meadow Green Tunic/Elf Green Cloak
Witch Queen-'' '' " " " " " "
Druid-Foundation Grey Tunic/hat.

RE: OD Returns-New Project
Today it's me & 24 Elf grunt Strands (168 figs) so
as I already did the flesh (face hands) of the 10
Elf Archer Strands I'm starting with them.

Yesterday I did the Tunics so I just have the cloaks,
boots,armor & those damn little bows/quivers/arrow feathers.

I'm trying to do this project on the cheap using the
paints I already had (although I had to order 8 pots)
but my brushes are beginning to feel the strain.
I'm "pointing" the hell out of them & so far it's
working so I think I can get through this project.
The 10mm figs don't use much paint but the detail
demanded means your brushes need to stay well
pointed.

Just checking in to see your progress. I'm really impressed with the workload. You've been a painting beast. I'm currently working on another LNoE Hero from Hero Pack 2. Keep up the good work OD and happy painting.

RE: OD Returns-New Project
Well being on lock down does wonders for painting time (& the weather hasn't been that great)
but alas hunching over painting is killing my lower back.

The Elf Archers figs. are all done.I still need to paint up the
Strand bases & then mount them up on the Game bases.
(this is my AM project)

So that leaves 24 Elf spear Strands for the PM Today. I'll do
the flesh (head /hands) & then start doing 12 Strands at a time.

Breaking the Strands into 2 groups just makes painting
seem like your accomplishing things faster.

RE: OD Returns-New Project
The Elf Archers are based & Stored so it
was on to the Elf spear units.I painted up 5
Strands of snow Elves (there elite elf Inf.)
which have white tunics & Angel green Cloaks.

I'm basing them up this AM & then starting on
my regular Elf Inf (7 Strands). They get Meadow
Green Tunics & Elf Green Cloaks.

The Elf Inf units wear armor so the tunics are
just the arms a bit of trim but it's detail work due
to the size.I expect to get all 7 Strands Tunics/Cloaks
done today & give them a Green Tone wash today.

RE: OD Returns-New Project
The Tunics/Cloaks are painted & Green Tone
washed. While they were drying I took the 6
Human Strands (Elf Allies) & painted their flesh
& gave them a soft tone wash.

So today I give the Human figs a quick flesh dry
brush & then get back to the Elf Inf.details.

I have 196 boots/98 Spear shafts & 98 belts
to paint. The Spear Shafts are the" killers"
I have to paint around those tiny hands +
some go in & out of the Elves Cloaks. I use
an Insane Detail Brush as the shafts details
are so small but that brush type doesn't hold
much paint. It takes a couple of dips to do 1
shaft.

RE: OD Returns-New Project
The boots/belts & Spear Shafts are done along with their Washes.
I also did the metal bits (Spear heads/shields/armor.)

Today I'm doing a Dark Tone wash on the metal bits & then a Harvest
Brown highlight on the oak Brown spear shafts. After that I need to
do the hair (Matt Black) & then a dry brush of Army Green on the Cloaks backs.
The cloaks have a small attachment piece in front which also needs a highlight,
alas can't dry brush those so it's back to the Insane Detail Brush.

RE: OD Returns-New Project
Thanks to the lock down & crappy weather all the Elf troops are
painted including the Strand bases. So this AM I'm cutting off
the strands from the sprunes & mounting them up on the
40x20mm Game bases.

According to the Midnight RPG fluff the Elves get some human allies:

The Green Men(Spears)- forces from several small villages on the edge of the
forest that the Shadow Army hasn't conquered.(Turf Green Tunics )

The Wildlanders (bows)-people that have chosen to live in the forest to be
free of what was the human kingdom. Now involved in defending the forest.
(Neco Flesh clothing under Leather Tunics.)

The refugees (bow/spears) humans that have fled the orcs occupation of
their homes . Basically rabble (various colored tunics & shields )

There are 6 Units (2 Strands each0 to paint up ,I've already done some work
on these so I hope to finish them up today.
