RE: The Brimstone Mines Users Guide
Very true GD that the classes overlap, the Earp example shows that, as for Outlaw & Gunslinger I divide that
in my own mind as a Gunslinger being a gun for hire a Doc. Holliday type (dentist/gambler ) where as an Outlaw does things like robs banks, stages ,steals cattle. The lines that delineates all the SoB classes sort of depends on the popular Archetypes of the Old West & your individual interpretation of them. The cowboy thing divides in my mind as the grunt ranch hand "The Marlboro Man" if you will, the typical Archetype. A Women performer in a Western Show (they were a popular staple in these shows) a Cow Girl doesn't fit that Archetype (God I'm falling in love with this word) but again there is no reason why such a woman could not be in a Brimstone Party so I can lift my restriction on that basis. (your chipping away bit by bit GW). Yes Japanese were on the West Coast especially after 1880 when Congress stopped Chinese immigration . I still can't see a Samurai in his robes & swords at the Long Branch We are discussing fictional characters in a Board Game & this "Guide" is just my response to how I see the Classes be it unnecessary or not. I don't think it's sexist to acknowledge that women in certain SoB Classes would be a very small minority but I do see your point. I think I'll split the difference & just make the Restricted Occupations subject to a die roll to allow for the chance a woman would hold them. This feed back is most helpful-of course it now means I'll have to paint up more figures for the women variants. Here's the latest Version of The Brimstone Mine Users Guide with the new Mine breakdowns: The Dalton Mining Company was operating 20 mines at full capacity when the "Great Explosion occurred." The mines Dark Stone's although not exploding resonated with the exploding Shards. In some cases this caused the mines to collapse & in others portals were ripped through to other Dark Stone deposits in other dimensions. Deep in the bowels of the Earth long forgotten Ancient Horrors were awakened. In all cases the resonating caused the Dark Stone to be super charged which caused drastic mutations if humans were exposed over a long period in the high concentration of the mines. Miners working at the time & animals present were subject to instant horrible transformations. When rescue & curiosity seekers arrived at the destroyed town the dead bodies were piled up like cord wood. Too many bodies to simply bury instead the dead were dumped into the various mines. This decision would prove to be mistake as the Dark Stone impregnated mines caused the bodies to reanimate as living dead & they were hungry. To keep the SoB Game from being just a mish-mash dungeon crawl I have separated out the 20 mines as to what specific Beings /Adventures it contains. Mine #1-Scafford Gang-Boss/Gang/Brutes Mine #2-Targa Portal-Ancient City-Core Game- Custodians/Guardian/Dark Pylons/Thrun Hunter / Snow Terrors/ Ancient Spiders Mine #3-Jargono Portal-Swamp of Death-Core Game-Serpent Men/Swamp Raptor/Serpent Man Shaman / Bog Bats/ Swamp Slashers Mine #4-Cynder-Portal-Lava Men/Hellfire Succubi /Belli'al Mine #5-Vampire Nest-Mine -Vampires Mine #6-Lost Army-Zombie Mexican Soldiers/Hell Canon Mine #7-Werewolves Den-Werewolves Mine #8-Trederra- Portal-Legionaries/Grenadiers/Raiders /Field Marshal/Mutants Mine #9-Blasted Waste-Portal-Scavengers/Terralisk Mine #10-Derelict Ship-Portal-Necroaunts/Flesh Stalker/Drones Mine #11-Dark Fang Tribe-Dark Fang Warriors Mine #12-Cult of the Crimson Hand HQ /Cultist Mine #13-#18 -Mundane- Wandering monsters Mine # 19-#20-Collapsed Wandering monsters available in all Mines Flesh Stalker Void Sorcerer Burrower Trederra Figures (Raiders can be in all Otherworlds ) Hungry Dead Stranglers Night Terrors Goliath Corpse Piles Slashers Scourge Rats Undead Gunslinger Undead Outlaw Gang Sand Kraken Cult of the Crimson Hand Ancient one Harversters Dark Stone Hydra Tribal Ghost Warriors Frontier Bandits Harbinger Wandering Monsters restricted to Portal Site Mines Void Hounds Void Spiders Tentacles Hell Bats Note Other Worlds encounters are restricted to the Beings listed on their Portal. Unless noted they do not appear in normal mines encounters OD The regular Mine users guide & solo set up includes all the Stretch Goal/Add-ons , however only the Core Game Missions & Miniatures will be present for Wave 1. Thus the Brimstone Mine users Guide & Solo Set Up is modified as follows to account for only the Core Set figures : I. Determine # of Heroes-Roll d3* II. Select Heroes-Via Hero Set Restrictions Note the Hero Special Starting Upgrade is RANDOMLY chosen. Separate out the Hero Cards by Set: I. Lawful US Marshal Lawman II. Rogues Bandito Gunslinger III. Note the party leader will be Lawful or Rogue Hero If Citizens Chosen - Randomly draw all the Heroes from the Citizens Deck. The first drawn Hero is the party leader-exceptions: The following cannot be Party Leaders: Indian Scout The Party Leader gets the Old Lantern Mine Selection- Roll D6: 1-3= Basic Mission 4-6=Advanced Mission-(Even = City of Ancients/Odd= Swamps of Death Sighing like the night wind and sobbing like the rain,— Wailing for the lost one that comes not again: |
