Been working on The Diner for a long time. I still have to put in the doors and windows as well as adding details and grass to the exterior, but I figured I'd show some work in progress photos. I'm trying to finish up my 3rd and 4th L-board in time for a game session on Saturday night.

This looks so damn good.
Just one question from a gaming point of view. When you are playing do you always know what square your models are on?

For some buildings I've drawn in the lines on the floor to clearly mark the location of each square. For others, I tried to use some of the inner contents to sort of outline the squares (like using the L-shaped counter area in The Diner to go down the middle of the floor area to help define the spacing.) Plus, there are clearly marked lines in the grass area outside of the buildings to help out as well.

Hopefully I'll have 4 L-boards done in time for Saturday night and I'll see if anyone has any confusion on spacing. If there are problems, I'll find a way to clearly define the spacing in each building.

Thanks for looking!
Well, I definitely had a productive day yesterday. I also started and nearly finished The Hangar. Really, I just need to add some grass mat to the exterior, put "glass" (plastic sheet) into the windows and install some signature pieces to the interior.

Thanks again for following my project!

Holy Crap! Dude your incredible! Like I'm speechless. You totally should try to make doubles and sell them!
This is absolutely awesome.

I am torn between making a board 3d like this or simply using Foamboard to put walls around the existing game board.

Decisions decisions...
@ aprillo - For all the time and effort it's taking me just to do these, I'd have to be paid in gold bars for me to consider going through this process a second time. While I'm thrilled with the results so far, there are times I'm cursing myself that I even started the process.

@ UK_zombie - It's definitely a labor of love. Do whatever you feel you have the time for and what will be worth it for you. I'm picky and therefore wanted buildings more in scale with the miniatures. The board that is packaged with the game just doesn't do that. I felt that the footprints of the buildings are way too small to house multiple miniatures with the added restriction of walls.

With that said, I've seen some very impressive builds on this forum so it obviously works for some. For me, because I wanted to add interior pieces, I had to go bigger and make the size of the squares slightly more than double the size of the board that comes with the game (to 3 inches).

My one fear is that I'm not going to have the table space once I put this all together, or even if it fits that players won't have a ton of room for their character sheets and cards, to roll dice, or that they will have trouble moving their pieces. I'm crossing my fingers that everything goes well during me first gaming session using my 3D board.
I will catch a plane for the play test and bring my figuresZombie20
I see your point, it must take a longgg time. But it really is beautiful. You should be proud, and other than the potential space issue you mentioned, playing on your board pices is going to be increbly exciting and rewarding im sure.

Thatd be a game to remember, his boards and your minis... youd really feel like you playing the movie!
Ok, I have people coming over tonight to test out the 3D board. I worked until the wee hours of the morning every night this week (and paying for it while sitting at my desk at work the next morning each day) but I simply ran out of time. I did not get everything complete but I will be using what I have because I really want to test out the layout.

So, here are some WIP updates and a shot of the near finished board we'll be using tonight.

HIGH SCHOOL and GYM - Both building are nearly complete on the exterior except for painting windows and doors and covering up the foam board that shows at the seams. Also, like my other more recent buildings, I still need to add interior items to help flesh out the area (no pun intended). I really like the way the basketball court came out in the gym.

Here is the "shell" of the HOSPITAL. I simply did not have the time or energy left last night to complete this but I at least got it to a state where it is usable for tonight's games. The front of the hospital will have floor to ceiling glass windows with "faux" sliding doors for the entrance so that is why the entire front area was left open.

Lastly is one final shot of the complete game board, ready for tonight's session.
