I for one did not think you were whining at all. I would be just as annoyed as you were over something like that. ;-)
But, like I said, I think you made the right call. In the end, it isn't like it is that big a deal if you can't bring the lanyard you want to work. So, no reason to make a big stink over something so minor. Then again... I would say the same thing to the person who asked you not to wear it in the first place. ;-)
