RE: Advanced Heroquest Ultimate Project (begins after 33 Years)
Hi again, next up is our filthy, stinking Skaven warriors. These are the basic troop type that are thrown at you to slaughter in droves. The game contained 20 plastic miniatures. Each Skaven had exactly the same sculpt but their weapons were slightly different so you could have 5 weapon types (although all the weapons had the same rules). There was a sprue of different shields you could use too.

I really didn't want to paint 20 models that were exactly the same so I bought this Skaven kit which contained all the parts to make 20 Skaven miniatures and no Skaven would be the same as these were multi-part kits containing loads of different heads, weapons, legs and torsos. I also added to the bases with broken rusty weapons, skulls, rats, blood spills etc.

The reason these bases are brown is they'll match the junction tiles for the game plus I wanted all my enemy types to have the same colour bases.

Warriors = brown bases
Sentries = blue bases
Champions = yellow bases
Special Skaven Types = green bases
Warlords = Red bases
Skaven Characters = Cream bases

I picked a colour scheme that I enjoyed painting (this really helps when painting lots of figures). I think black and yellow looks striking and I kept the colour palette the same across the whole lot. This would make them look like more of a swarm.

I also had some early metal Citadel miniatures from the mid 80's. I picked a few up too that I could find at a reasonable price. Most of these were painted terribly so I ended up stripping them and repainting. The shields are from the original game.

I now had my 20 individual Skaven Warriors all eager to murderise anyone foolish enough to invade their lair.

Thanks for looking everyone.Watchmen02

Wow man. This is a pretty wild project. Thanks for sharing.

I never saw a copy of Hero Quest in the wild growing up. Closest I got to non monopoly games growing up was Lord of the Rings risk, Star Wars monopoly, and an Avalon Hill game I never quite figured out. LNoE was my first actual hobby game purchase.

I’ve got some good friends who adore Hero Quest tho! Amazing to see all the work you put into your favorite games

RE: Advanced Heroquest Ultimate Project (begins after 33 Years)
Thank you to Old Dwarf and Raynor for your comments and kind words.Zombie17

Now we have some of the tougher Skaven. First up we have a Skaven Sentry.

These nasty blighters hide within the ranks of Skaven Warriors until they decide to perform their special ability which is to open doors to undiscovered sections of the dungeon. Let this sink in a moment... Your battle weary Heroes make their way into another dungeon room with several Skaven nesting in. The Skaven win the Surprise Roll and a nasty rat runs out of the group and opens another door containing another load of Skaven! Fortunately, the room contents aren't revealed until the end of the Games Master Phase but still a frightening concept for any Hero. They are easier to kill than Warriors but they can run quicker!

This is another metal figure from the mid 80's called Skewer. He is the same figure depicted on the Skaven Sentry stats stats card.

Next we have a couple of Skaven Champions.

Those of you who know your rat miniatures will recognise the rat on the right as the Skaven miniature from Warhammer Quest. I was going to use this figure as a Skaven Warrrior but due to his size I thought I'd make him a Champion. The metal rat on the left is called Radbyte, another mid 80's figure from the C47 Skaven set. Champions are better than Warriors at fighting and harder to kill due to their superior armour. They're also stronger and braver. Again, these guys don't reveal themselves until they attack. He is the same figure depicted on the Skaven Champion stats card

Last but certainly not least, is our fearsome Skaven Warlord.

He is another level of toughness for the Heroes to face. Again he will skulk in the ranks until he attacks. He has a magic halberd and his favourite pastime is skewering dwarfs with it (but any surface dweller is fair game). This metal miniature is from the C27 Skaven Flame Thrower Crew names Malis Manwrack Commander. He is the same figure depicted on the Skaven Warlord stats card.

Thanks for looking everyone, comments are always welcome.

RE: Advanced Heroquest Ultimate Project (begins after 33 Years)
The next set of Skaven are known as Specialist Skaven.

The first of this set is a Skaven Poisoned Wind Globadier. These guys are physically weaker with no armour but they carry 6 hollow glass spheres. When these are thrown they smash open to poison anyone nearby. If a Hero can't hold their breath and they're out of Fate Points they accidentally inhale the highly toxic fumes and suffer a horrible choking death too horrible to describeZombie13

I'm going to limit myself to posting one Skaven Specialist per post as I research the miniature. It's in game strengths and weaknesses. Plus I want to give myself chance to keep painting my backlog of miniatures so I can keep adding to this thread as often as I can.

Thanks for taking a look. More coming soon...

Waiting for the Plague Monks! I painted up Skaven figs for each Clan using the AHQ

Skaven Specialists: Skaven Warpfire-Thrower Team

These guys fire a green chemical/warpstone powder mix fireball at your unfortunate Heroes. This would not be good for the skin. The original Citadel code was C27 Skaven Flamethrower Crew.

Skaven Specialists: Skaven Jezzailachis Team

If anyone is hit by a shot from this sniper rifle type weapon all armour is ignored and it causes 6 Damage DiceZombie16 (Enough to kill a Hero outright if they have no Fate Points). The original Citadel code was 4406 Skaven and the gun model was called 440636 Clan Skryre w. Jezzail. The rat holding the support was called 440636 Clan Skryre w. Jezzail Rest.

Thanks for looking, more coming soon.

Skaven Specialists: Gutter Runners

These sneaky nasty gits are elite skirmishes and scouts. They get +1 for the surprise roll and they are crazy fast. The original Citadel code was C47 Skaven and his original name was Backstabber. Like the rest of the C47 models they appeared around 1986.

I also painted up a newer Skaven Gutter Runner (as sometimes you find more than one in a dungeon). This one is more modern (after 2000). Coded 6067 Gutter Runners.

I get that. The details on the newer metal models are clearly more advanced. I just have a soft spot for the pre-90's stuff. Although both models have character. It's probably more of a case of nostalgiaZombie16
