The way I look at it is that you asked me where I got photoshop because you quoted me. So pardon me for saying so.

Okay... calm down. You have to "buy" Photoshop. If you can't buy it. I'm sorry. I can't legally help you.

I believe The Gimp (open source software) can open and modify the file.

RE: Using the Blank Template for HERO Cards
In more exciting news...

I did finally get it to work.

I think the original pics I was using were much too big or something, because they would just not 'paste' in. When I used a much smaller pic, I was able to copy and paste it right in.

Now to just learn how to manipulate it around, so it appears in the 'box'.

Baby steps, baby steps....LOL

RE: Using the Blank Template for HERO Cards
I had some time on my hands so I thought I'd help you guys out a little.

1) First of all open up the psd file: Hero Template.

2) Open up the picture you want to put in to the Hero Template. Make sure that the picture is the same "size" as the original Hero Template. You can do this by going to the menu and follow the steps that I show here with the red arrows. I have the dutch version of Photoshop so I can't realy say what the menu's are called in the english version. But I am positive that they are situated at the same location as in the dutch version.

3) You can check resolution (1). The Hero Template has 300. Most pictures from high end cameras have them in 180 and sometimes in 72.
You can change that without any problem. Just make sure that you don't forget to keep the picture in the same size. Altering the resolution without altering the image size will cause distortion and a blurry picture.
Click away the V at arrow 3. Then you will see that the lines at arrow 2 will connect all 3 boxes. You are good to go now and alter your image to a resulotion of 300.

4) Next step is getting your picture in the Hero Template.
You can do this by using the crtl-A & ctrl-C method I already explainend earlier but you can also simply drag and drop.
Click the box where the arrow is pointing at in the next picture. When that is clicked go to you picture, click it, hold your mousebutton and simply pull it onto the Hero Template.

5) Your picture will now end up somewhere in the Hero Template. Probably looking like the one here. Look at the arrow, there it is showing the picture.

6) Now you must put your picture in the right location. Click your Hero Template and look at the right hand side of your screen. There you can see a window and that shows all the layers you have in the Hero Template.
Move the layer of your picture in to the folder called: "Put Your Hero Image Here" by simple drag and dropping it there.

7) When you have done that you will see that your picture is now insinde the Hero Template. It should look ok now.
Next step is to alter all the text.
Look at the following picture and look for arrow 1. Click that box and you will be able to alter the text. After you clicked that box simply click somewhere on one of the textlines. Use your arrow keys and backspace to delete these words and type your own.

To alter all the different lines just chose and click them in the layerwindow.
Next is my finished version of a hero card of our dog. Watchmen02

I hope this helps. And if you have any questions, just ask.

I am the reason God stopped watching.
