RE: A Fist Full of Dark Stone
Note I do my Game Reports more to tell the Story the Game creates
than to give a rule by rule use account. However to better give an understanding of how the Game flows I numbered each Turn. Deliah Morgan's Personal Journal May 16th,1867 Due to events of the last couple of days I have been unable to maintain my journal but I feel I must now set things down to clear my mind of the horror experienced in Mine #14 I reached the Mine entrance about 8AM along with Luis Oliveras, the man I had persuaded to help me recover the Dark Stone my uncle had told me about. Oliveras is a rouge but fearless, the kind of person you want for a dangerous mission. (1)Entering the mine things were eerily quiet We proceeded slowly looking around I found nothing. Oliveras however managed to scavenge up a Bandolier Strap. (2)Still moving slowly as my eyes adjusted to the dimness of the lantern light ,I must have made Oliveras impatient as he went ahead & looked into the entrance of the next room which he described as a Switched Curve. He yelled out a warning but it was too late 5 Demonic creatures waving Tentacles ambushed us 3 attacked me & 2 went for Oliveras. I took 9 wounds & Oliveras took 6 . Oliveras managed to lob dynamite behind the 2 Stranglers attacking them & killed them both I however failed to hit one of my attackers it being difficult to use my hunting rifle in such close quarters. I did manage through shear grit to use my Home Remedies to heal up 6 of my wounds. (3)The Mine seemed to get Darker as my assailants came at me again. I took another 5 wounds. Alas my shot went wide & I failed to do any damage to the creatures. Oliveras using his pistol managed to kill one of my attackers. (4)I feel again the Darkness of the Mine, it seems to give the creatures a 'Demonic Speed' to spur them on. The monsters attack me again with renewed vigor & I take another 3 wounds, I'm getting weaker I feel I have only another 2 wounds in me. Damn I miss my shot again & Oliveras also misses with his pistol. (5)At least the Darkness of the Mine seems to have stopped it's advance but I am once more attacked by the remaining two creatures.I was ensnared badly taking seemly overwhelming damage but by some miracle I revived to fight on. This time I shoot true doing critical damage & killing one of my attackers. Oliveras takes out the other & we are free & have a chance to catch our breath. I'm fine & Oliveras manage to heal 3 wounds. We also find laying in the dust stirred up by the fight nuggets of gold, Oliveras grabs $300 worth & I pick up the remainder $100 worth. (6)Maybe we've seen the worst the Darkness continues to hold off. Oliveras anxious to move on goes & looks through the entrance to the next room & informs me it's a Mining Room so perhaps we're getting closer to our goal. I moved up to the entrance with Oliveras. Oliveras explores the room & suddenly shakes his head.. Worms horrible worms drop on his head but his Agility allows him to shake them off. I however am also swarmed by these vile worms & am unable to shake them but I don't give up & my Spirit lets me avoid them. We both take a quick look around, Oliveras still shaken by the worms sees nothing but I make a Lucky find & pick up $50 in darkly stained bills, Blood Money indeed . Just then the worms attack us again, the room is infested with them. Oliveras again uses his Agility to shake them off. I however fail & even my Spirit deserts me this time & I can feel them burrowing into my brain & I loose 2 Sanity at the thought of them inside me. In spite of the distractions the Lantern revealed one of the marks that my uncle told me about a Clue to show we're on the right track. (7) Thank God the Darkness still holds back,. We have to get out of this room & away from these damn worms. I manage to reach the entrance to the next room which appears to be a Rail Tunnel for the mine carts. Oliveras hurries along to join me. As we stand at the entrance & explore into the rail Tunnel the dim light reveals a legion of horrors. In the far corner a pile of Corpses , dead bodies animated by some strange power in the Mine look at us through shrunken eyes, god they look Hungry. Before them a Nightmare Monster darkly Bluish looms & nearest to us those horrible Strangler Tentacle creatures that attacked us before. The ensuing battle was a blur thank heaven we had dynamite & were in the bottle neck of the room entrance the Stranglers did some damage but the dynamite I threw killed them & did 5 wounds on the Night Terror Oliveras pistol added another 2 wounds. The Hungary dead shambled closer but could not attack reach us. Then the worms swarmed us again but our Agility saved us. (8)We are in a battle for our lives but at least Mine is not getting any darker. The Night Terror moves to attack Oliveras but he avoids all but 1 hit. Oliveras lobs more dynamite at the Horror giving it 6 more wounds & also taking out 2 Hungry Dead behind it. I finish it off with a final critical shot. The Terror of the thing however causes us to lose 2 Sanity . The Hungary Dead stumble forward but still can't reach us. The obscenity of the Corpse Pile does caused us to loose 1 more Sanity. The Worms still keep coming from the Mining Room we fail to shake them off but our Spirit lets us overcome the. (9)Our luck holds & the Darkness doesn't advance. Oliveras moves around the shambling Hungry Dead and pumps a Critical hit into the Corpse Pile just reducing it to a pile of inert decaying flesh. I slip off the entrance to avoid the worms & fire on the closest Hungry dead I miss. (10)We're exhausted but the Darkness thankfully continues to holds off. Oliveras finishes off the remain Hungry Dead. We're alone with the carnage. Checking the room I found $25 in coins & $100 in Gold Dust plus a 1 shard of Dark Stone. Oliveras began looking as well & found $50 in Cash & $110 in blood encrusted money & $200 worth of Gold Nuggets. But best of all I saw the turned over Mine Cart my uncle had described. It was heavily battered from the explosion & most of its contents had probably gone up in the blast but I managed to find 3 Dark Stone Shards. Oliveras picked through & found 3 more. Wasting no more time in Mine we hurried out & began our journey back to town. The Mine it seemed had one more trick to play, we were Harried by Hell Bats drawn by our Dark Stone. Before I could stop them they swooped down & carried off 3 of my Dark Stone Shards, leaving me with 1. Oliveras with a little more warning managed to keep his 3. Arriving back at Callville, we both made arrangements to stay at the Hotel. Oliveras had a suggest that just one room would save us money, but he wasn't serious..at least I think not. I went over to the General Store & found due to a stock shortage prices had gone up but I wanted some Daemon Shot so I paid the extra. If I ever need to go back in those Mines I want something that stop those Stranglers. Oliveras went over to the Frontier Outpost Bank to sell his Blackstone & got caught up in a Dark Stone explosion that blew the place up but he managed to avoid the Tentacles that rampaged in it's wake but obviously that closed the Bank for business. That evening it seemed the Darkness we found in the Mine had followed us back to Callville." A Spreading Fear" seem to cover the town, Old Doc Thompson was shaken so badly he closed his office & lite out for parts unknown. After that we just decided to just get out of Callville, I came back to the Ranch & when the Banker shows to collect on my note I'll be able to use my shard to pay him off. Oliveras said he was going back to Mexicali for a spell to see the wife & kids...who knew. Thus ends an account of my Adventure. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Final Stats for the Campaign:(in addition to Starting Equipment) Deliah Morgan-350XP, 115 Gold,1 Dark stone Shard +1 Daemon Shot Luis Oliveras-60XP,$490 gold, 3 Dark Stone Shards + 1 Bandolier Strap + 1 corruption & empty Dynamite Satchel, Cunning now 2 & Swinging Fist now Level 2 Sighing like the night wind and sobbing like the rain,— Wailing for the lost one that comes not again: |
