How many players do you prefer to play with?

Some people prefer 60 minute games. Some prefer theirs much longer. Personally, I think 3 is a golden number, but that's probably just because we don't have much time to have multiple games if we play in huge groups.

It's funny you say that, because I've actually yet to run into that problem. Our group has gone anywhere from just three people playing all the way up to having a full game of 6 people. We have never had our games go much longer than an hour to an hour and a half.

However, I played a couple of times one on one with friend of mine and each of those games took almost three hours. I find that this particular friend of mine tends to like to think out his strategy a little more. Luckily, it isn't usually SO much that it gets boring, but it does make the game take a little longer.

So, I think it is just as much a matter of WHO you play with as it is how many. ;-)

I played with three players, one of whom was unfamiliar and a bit nervous. It was nice to have her as a survivor. That way she had someone to bounce ideas off of and had two characters to keep things interesting.

RE: How many players do you prefer to play with?
I bought this game and played with 3, 4, 5 and 6. Me and my wife played 1v1 but just in the beggining to undestand the rules and game mechanics, but we dont like it very much like that, we end up playing another game.
What we really like is with 6 players, its a little hard for the zombies, since you have to share strategy, but its very fun. Usually our games end up being decided in one or two dice rolls and the more the merrier for the rooting and taunting. We have a guy that is a specialist in calling what the die will be. We are now going to try with 6+ players, since our group is growing its numbers, and we (still) dont have the growing hunger, so there are no dots to compensate.

So far, we've played with 2, 4, 5 & 6.

I think 4 might be the best fit for our group, in terms of keeping things moving. 6 is fun, but a little chaotic...and when you mix wine in - well...it's a little too all over the place.

But my group of friends are going on a houseboating trip in a few weeks, so I may have to figure out how to have a game with more than 6. Hmm...

You know... I wish I could remember where, but somebody here put together a DOTS guide for adding extra hero players. If you don't have Growing Hunger yet (I actually don't, but I know about DOTS from here) DOTS is basically a system that allows you to add things to the game. It gives each thing you could add a certain number of DOTS based on how much it effects the balance.

Then, the idea is you are supposed to balance it out between zombies and heroes. For example, if you add something to heroes for 6 DOTS, you would then add 6 DOTS somehow to the zombies (could be one 6 DOT thing, two 3 DOT things, etc.)

Anyways, somebody here came up with a breakdown for adding more Hero players, but I can't remember where they had it.

If anybody else reading this remembers, please link it in this thread.

yeah i know about the dots system, but im waiting for my gh to arrive. I read some posts about adding players, i guess we will try adding 1 card to each zombie player per hero added. We will see how it goes and start from there. We have a gaming session saturday, but maybe my expansion arrives this week.

I think 4 heroes vs 1 ZP works best. However I usually have more buddies join the game and since I can't see much sense in sharing the post as ZP I often find the undead horde facing more than four heroes...

Well, that would probably be me. Here it is. Bare in mind this was made 2-3 years back, before I acquired SotF.

It has worked fine to find a balance through many games especially since more Dots have come to use than included in the above sheet. I'd recommend PJONs Dot Chart to anyone who wants to include Dots in their game as it gives a good overview of em all.

Yeah i had seen that, so its 5 dots for an extra player and 4 for 2 extra cards, os its kinda even. Since im an amazing player and usually im the zombies i can deal with the 1 dot offset =P

My sentiments exactly. Of course it's scenario dependant what works best and also your players' overall skill may be worth taking into account.

Thanks, scary. I figured somebody would fill us in. By the way, LOVE the use of the characters from Shaun of the Dead as the image! ;-)
